TO BOYCOTT WANAMAKER. At the general assembly of the Knights of Labor, statements reflect inn en the course put sued by Im post master General Wanamaker were made. His store employing about 3000 people, mostly girls, wis ordered to be boycotted. They have under taken a big job. The Masons of Western IVnnsyl vania propose to raise $8oo,oeo to btiild and equip a Masonic university in Beaver, by asking every Mason in the country to subscribe ten dollars. It is expected that most Masons would send their sons to the univer sity, while the children of dead Ma sons, who could not aflord to pay, would be educated in it free of charge. Beaver is said to be the centre of the Masonic population of the United States, and the Masons of the place say they will give the proposed insti tution a site of eighty acres. A Peculiar Election Bill. According to the Harrisburg Star the Commissioners of Dauphin coun ty had to wrestle with the following bill of expenses lor holding an elec tion in that county: One tin rule, 10 cents; two miles going for same, 12 cents 1 one dozen candles for booths, o cents ; two miles traveling for same, 12 cents ; one bottle of ink, to cents ; two miles traveling for same, is cents; four miles carrying water, 24 cents; two miles for In inking mucilage, 12 cents ; one half gallon coal oil, 5 cents ; two miles traveling to bring same, 12 cents; one sheet iron and pipe. 35 cents ; two miles for bringing same, 12 cents ; total, $1.76. The Commissioners paid the man only 40 cents of the amount claimed. Let Us Hear From flira. The goose bone weathrr prophet has opened the winter campaign. He has discovered that the goose bone this year is clear white all through, which would, according to the goose bone and corn husk scientist, indicate a steady cold winter, with snow from November to April. Now it is in order to hear from the woolly worm prophet. There have been instances when the woolly worm prediction neutralised the effects of the goose bone calamity. Thirteen young ladies at Cape May, N. J., have organized an anti-cigarette league and vow to neither associate with young men who smoke cigarettes nor accept their hands in marriage. The above organization should spread until these leagues are not only in every town in New Jersey but also in every hamlet in Pennsylvania. A movement is on foot among the Old Soldiers to form a county organi zation to be called the County Veterans' Association. The organi xation will be a permanent one and will include all old soldiers. They will meet once a year for a general reunion. A similar organization has been formed in other counties. The school advantages of the pres ent day are much superior to those enjoyed by our children of a genera tion ago. No instrumentality is hav ing a larger influence in giving us good schools, than the State Normal School at this place.
