President John McBride, of the United Mine Workers of America, has issued a circular call for the fifth an nual convention of the organization to be held nt Columbus, commencing April 10. The convention will be the most important convention yet held, for at that convention a "national movement" will be considered. This mean3 the total suspension of work by miners from Colorado to East ern Pennsylvania. If adopted and a date set the greatest strike in the his tory of the miner of America will be inaugurated. There are in America, fully one hundred thousand miners who are attached to the United Mine Workers organization. For several months the officials have been preparing for the national move ment. Organizers and State and Dis trict Presidents have been working at the organization and with such success that it is estin.ated fully fifteen thou sand additional miners have been brought into the union already and by the time the convention meets at least that many more additional miners will have become members. It is expected in the Pittsburg dis trict alone that the 12,000 miners and coke workers of the Connellsville re gion and the 8000 river and railroad miners will be organized. Meetings are being held nightly, conventions called and no means left undone to arouse enthusiasm pmong the coal dig gers for the national movement. The same applies to the Ohio, Tennessee, West Virginia, Indiana, Illinois and Missouri coal fields. Coke production in the Connells ville region last week was two thou sand tons greater than that of the previous week, but the output was not up to the standard. In the weekly shipments there was a decrease of 75 cars, Showing that some of the product was stocked on the yards. The demand did not improve much during the week, as the operators anticipated. A detailed report of the operation and output shows 11,219 active anfl 6294 idle ovens with a total estimated production of 110,7.11 tons compared with the production of the 'previous week. This was an increase of 2040 tons. In the active list of ovens there was a net gain of 19 j ovens. Art Gvinia (in Colors) Tree. A somewhat rapid glance over the coming fashions shows that they are practically the same as last year's. This fact, however, will prove a blesaing in disguise, as it will enable many to exercise a well timed economy and take advantage of this sameness of style for remodelling old dresses. Every part of a gown can thus be made over, and especially the over skirt which will be so largely worn. By using an old skirt as an overdress above a shapi skirt of a different ma terial, the transformation will be at once both complete and elective. If the lower nart of an old dress be worn or soiled, it may easily be removed, as the drapery in some styles is drawn up as U'' as tne knee on the side, and half way bet-veen the foot nnd the knee in front. As a matter of course the draperies are varied in form and sometimes quite complicated. The McDi vi;u. Fashion Journals con tain all the novelties of the season, and moreover, in order to furnish fur ther assistance to their readers, they offer a supplement of patterns of the latest styles.
