The Bloomsburg Cornet Band dis coursed some fine music in front of the Court House on Christmas morn ing. They also played a number, of luoes in front of the Town Hall. They re improving greatly in their playing. Mrs. John Zaner of Forks, and Mrs. H. C. Kelchner of Lightstreet, attend ed the funeral of their half sister, Mrs. Catharine Kline, at Williamsport, on Monday. Mrs. Kline was a sister of Conrad Bittenbender, who was unable to go as he is sick with the grippe. She was eighty years old. In the Goshen items of the Daily Argun, of Middletown, N. Y., of De cember 21, appears the following: Dr. E. F. Smith has sold his resi dence on South street to Dr. E. G. Paiker. Dr. Smith has been taking a polyclinic course in New York, for the Ihe past month. He expects to leave here next week and will probably lo cate in Buffalo, where the field is larger. "Friday" Dollart caught an im- mensc frog out along the creek on Tuesday. The warm weather, no doubt, deceived the frog and made him think that Spring was here, and he came out from his hibernation. J. K. Bittenbender bought a fine team of horses on Tuesday at public sale at the Central Hotel stables. The hones were in a drove brought in from the west by Shuster & Hawk. There were 20 horses and two mules in the lot, and they were so'd at low figures. Quite a joke was told of a little fellow who Christmas eve hung his stocking near the. chimney and wrote a letter to Santa Claus, as follows : " Please Mr. Santa Claus tell Mr. GidJing & Salsburg to dive you the goat and wagon and put it in my 'locking. Willie." P. E. Bomboy, an old resident of Espy, died suddenly on Wednesday morning, aged over sixty years. He was an industrious man, and a good citizen. A wife and three children survive him. The funeral will be held to-day, Friday, and the remains will be buried at Almedia cemetery. The congregation of St. Paul's Church was annoyed on Christmas morning during services, by the play ing of the bnnd near by, which was kept up ail ihro'igli the sermon. Of course, there was no intention on the part of the band to disturb the ser vices, and it will only be necessary to call attention to the matter to avoid a repetition. Wirt on Fifth Street, below Market, is under roof, and plasterers at work on the interior. The brick lay ers are hard at work on the second double building, which is also expect ed to be completed by the first of April. St. Paul's Sunday School Christmas services were held in the Parish House on Wednesday evening, and consisted of singing carols and the distribution of gifts. A Christmas tree was set up on the platform. The hall was so crowded that there was only standing room in the rear. Rev. R. Hamill Davis. Ph. D.. died at his home in Orangeville on Satur- 23rd inst., alter a long illness. More than a year ago he was stricken with paralysis, and has been helpless ever since. He was pastor of the Presby terian Church, in O'ar.geville and Kriarcreek, navinz been called there in August, 18S9. He was a faithful minister, and his loss will be deeply felt by his bereaved wife and children, and bv the whole community. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon and the remains were taken to Liw renceville, N. J., for interment. John L. Kline, the outgoing county treasurer, will retire with the reputa tion of an honest man and a conscien tious official. One of his latest acts was the voluntary relinquishing of a commission of 3 per cent, on $40,000, in order that the public interests might not suffer. There are 1 ut few menin public office who do such things now adays. Another act of his was the raising of $500 on his individual note to pay home of the expenses of the last court, when the county treasury was empty, lie is entitled to com mendation for the manner in which he has performed his duties during the past three years. Wm. S. Hess died at his home near Fowlersville Sunday evening. December 24th, about five o clock aged 45 years. He was prostrated with the grip on Friday, December 1 5 but with the best of attention he seemed to be improving and bid fair to soon be out again ; however a lit tie over a week later a second attack of the grip, together with a complica tion of other ailments seized him, and his friends were hastily summoned to his bed side, for he grew worse very rapidly and in a little over twenty-four hours expired. 1 he deceased was of very quiet disposition, born and raised in the community in which he died and had formed many close fnends, He leaves a widow (a daughter of Jno. Zahner) and three sons the oldest be ing but about ten years of age. F u neral services were held Wednesday morning at 10 o clock.
