HORMAL SCHOOL NOTES. Any one visiting the Normal School - ... ...ill n,4 V,, tt.A t'Atf7 itfi.' . "ill mill inni ui. - of which so many p ople tried to com plain. Ins had very little effect upon the aitjnJance of the school. Fully three hun lreJ fifty students have en rolled and we are told there is a good ly number yet to enroll before the middle of the term. The Senior class starts out with one hundred eight, and promises also to be somewhat increased before Christ mas by students who did extra r.-repar. atory work last year. The Model Schools, under the splendid supervision of Miss Pcrly and Miss Eihot respectively, are weil at tended. There is still room in these schools however, and a glance into their daily woi kings by many of our parents, would convince them that their children should be getting the exceptional training to be had there. uhat we were most pleased to learn was the splendid treat in store for our towns' people, as provided in this year s lecture course. The Su tLii lecture Course for this school year, is beyond doubt, made up of th: best talent ever presented to our peo pie. The first entertainment will be giv-' en by the Jiost.cn Ilcal JJanjo, Out tar, a, id JIawlolin Club. They will appear on the evening of November 1 st. Certainly no comment is neces sary to persuade people who enjoy ideal entertainment, to attend this fir:t number. The second date De cember 4th, will be filled by that mas ter of oratory Hon. Geo. Wendiir.g. He will give us his new lecture, enti tled : 'The Man of Galiltt." De cember 15th, Hon. John J Pinkerton will give "AUxmder Ilamilt'jn,'' which is said to be replete with intei est and valuable information. The Winter term will be introduced on the evening of January 10th by that prince of entertainers, the incom parable Le'and T. Powers. Mr. Pow ers has been before our towns people before, 'tis true, but we know that his night and subject need only be named secure for him a splendid audience. The last number of the regular course will be taken by Samuel Pnelps Iceland of Chicago His theme will be World Making''. .Although this is a scientfic subject, Mr. Leland is said to make it so intensely interesting that even the most disinterested must say it wjs an evening of unusual profit. Our town should indeed, be grateful for being afforded the privilege of hav ing so eminent a list of public enter tainers and lecturers, and we believe will manifest such appreciation by a liberal and willing patronage. THE COLTJIolACOUBTT FALL The 39th annual exhibition of this association will be held on their grounds in Bloomsburg from October 10 to 14 inclusive. Many improve ments have been made this year to the buildings, which are cow supplied with as capacious and comfortable stalls for horses and cattle as they are accustomed to occupy at home. A building has been fitted up in a con venient location for the storage of baggage, the association checking and taking charge of same for a small fee. ProC Tolbert's combination of running, hurdle and Roman chariot races will be the attraction. The purses aggregate $2,500 which are of fered for eleven races, including 2:19 and free for all classes. The track has been kept in first class condition during the whole season. Many of the other premiums have also been increased, and the classes rearranged to fully meet the demands of exhibi tors. The cyclorama of the Battle of Gettysburg will be on exhibition. An additional outlet gate has been built on Fifth Street for the accommodation of vehicles. It shall be a Sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls by a statute for ever. In all the Jewish Synagogues con tinuous services were held from early etlnesday morning until evening. "Where in the world," asked the lawyer who volunteered information without a retaining fee, ' did people especially people in the country get the idea that one cannot touch or re move a body until the coroner has ar rived ? that is almost a general belief in the country, and there never was a more ridiculous and absurd piece of nonsense than this. I have seen a body lie in everybody's way because the people thereabout thought that it was unlawful to touch it. This foolish tradition amounts almost to a super stition, and you may be sure no coro ner takes the trouble to enlighten stu pid ignorance upon the subject The coroner is only to aggrandize his influ ence and power, and therefore rather encourage than discourage the suly superstition."
