We were visited last Friday after noon by a copious and welcome rain. It may be said that the long continued drouth has been broken, but the waters in our locality have not yet been fully replenished. There was a greater abundance of rain, north, east and west of iu, but a sufficient ijuantity for all practical purposes fell at this place. Evidently the drought was more severe in this locality than in any other within a very large scope of ter ritory, yet I believe that oar crops will compare . favorably with those sections more hifhly favored with rains. Some few farmers have begun cut ting up corn : but the corn generally is, yet too gieen to be shocked. Fall seeding is well on the way. From appearance the buckwheat crop will be very light. The straw is so small that it can hardly be cut. Especially is this true in the section visited by hail Thieving crows commit depreda tions on corn fields. They are a nuis ance equal to wharf rats. Our ball team went to Lime Ridge on Saturday last and played the club of that place. The features of the game was the constant kicking of both sides, and the overwhelming score piled up by Espy. We understand there is to be a wedding in town this (Thursday) even ing. Boys, get out your instruments. The Mifflinville btse ball club came to Espy on Monday with the intention of playing ball, but as our boys were not looking for them, they were all at work, consequently there was no Rame. Some person who lacks good common sense and who proba'jly imagined that they had control of the towa instructed them to come. It m'ght be a good idea if such people would attend more to their own busi ness and leave other affairs alone. DON'T PUSH. If a mart owes you a bill now and cannot pay it, don't crowd him.
