S Rish ton, Druggist. 10-14 ty It has been demonstrated to a pain ful degree recently that while a bank may occasionally be an unsafe place in which to keep money, a woolen stocking or a dark closet nearly always is. In every part of the state burglars are prowling after the widows and old men or other timid persons who have taken their money out of the banks and made a deposit bank out of an infirm coffee pot or a bed tick. The safest place for money not in use now is in a bank where burglars fear to break in and the man or woman who doesn't follow this suggestion will pay dearly for neglect of it. The burglars are busy. This is the time of year when every body begins to think about cleaning up and making improvements, and new wall paper is usually one of the first things to be done. W. II. I have sometimes been asked why more of the people of Bloomsburg and vicinity do not avail themselves of the advantages of the Model School con nected with the Normal School. It is a common remark of the hundreds of visitors who tee the work done here, "How I wish we lived near enough to send our children to your Model School 1 " It is often true that people who live at a distance know more about the advantages of a great institution than those who live neighbors to it, for the reason that the most careful advertis ing is done away from home. Hence this letter. Our Model School is divided into two sections. (There will probably be three before the close of another year.) Each section is under the care of teacher whose training and experience has made her prominent in the teaching profession. Both of our teachers at present are graduates of the Teachers' Training School at Oswego, N. Y., an institution that stands among the lead ing schools of its kind in this country, One of them was for twelve years critic teacher in the city schools of Dayton, Ohio, and had charge of the train ing of teachers there. The other has had similar experience in the schools of Ishp, N. Y. 1 wo better trainee and more successful primary teachers could not be found anywhere. Every Model School pupil is taught by one orjthe other of these excellent teachers, the impression that they are "practiced upon" by members of the Senior class is misleading. They come under senior instruction only two periods each day. That instruc tion is given only after the Senior has had careful instruction in the line of work pursued, and it is done under the direct supervision of the Model School teachers. Work for each pupil must oe prepared daily by the senior teach er, and submitted for criticism, and a record of each day's work is kept for turure reference, there ts no douot whatever, that even the work of the Senior, after the first few lessons is su perior to most of the instruction chil dren get in the public schools. The main work of instructing how ever, is done by the regular Model School teachers, and is the best that can be had anywhere. Pupils pre pared in the Model School pass direct ly in tne Junior class, and it is a note worthy fact that these pupils are our youngest Juniors, which is evidence that they have reached this point in their education two or three years ear lier than those prepared elsewhere. Besides the training in the common branches, when they are ready for it, and their parents desire it, Model School pupils may receive instruction in the higher branches including Latin and Greek. They also receive, free of charge, instruction in vocal music under our regular music teacher (a graduate of the New England Conser vatory, ane a woman of wide and suc cessful experience) ; also instruction in diawing by our regular drawing teach er (a graduate of Yale Art School.) They receive, also, free instruction in clay modelling and manual training. All this for 25 cents per week. It could not be had for $3 per week rise- where.
