We have in the past two weeks travelled over some of the roads in Orange and Scott township, and the west side of Fishingcreek and a portion of Hunt ington township, Luzerne county, and can truthfully say that tl.erc are not as many loose stone in the roads men tioned as there are between Forks station and Jones & Watters store, Jonestown, a distanbe of four miles. Now, if the Arfua man can explain this to us we will give him the rag. He guesses the supervisor has gone to the World's Fair ; if so we hope he will soon return. There was a picnic party in Lau bach's grove from Orangevi'.ie, one evening last week. S. J. Pealer will teach the Forks school the coming term. A new porch has been added to B. E. Shannon's residence in Jonestown. Jes. Runyan's large barn is nearly completed. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Runyan visited the latter's mother, Mrs. M. Pratt of Town Hill, last Sunday. W. B. Pennington and Mr. Rob bius took a jump to Nescopeck Tues day last. There was a private picnic on the banks of Huntington near Forks, last week. A gigging party secured nearly 350 leatherheads a few nights ago in Hunt . ington creek. We are glad to see our friend, A. T. Chapin with his coat off again. The candidates seem to have en tirely forsaken these corners. Work has been commenced on the wire foot bridge across Fishingcreek. W. P. Kline and wife spent Sunday in Jamison City. Jerskytown. H. H. Wengle, Frank B. Irvin, jf. H. Dawson, Wm. S. Smith, Lewis Hartman from Montandon and W. H. Harris and Thomas Swenk from Milton drove; to our village on Sun day and registered at the Smith House. G. M. Quick and family from Bloomsburg paid Elmer McBride, proprietor of Smith Hotel a visit on Sunday last. Quite a number of our young peo ple took in Dad Backer's show at White Hall last Thursday eve and report it good. Chas. M. Smith and wife from Salt Lake City, Utah, is home visiting his father. Evan Kreamer and H. W. Terwilli ger left on Saturday morning for Buckhorn, Bloomsburg and Light Street, and some say they got around as far as Muncy, as they did not re turn until Tuesday morning. Go again boys but do not stay so long. Mrs. Charles Workheiser of Buck horn who has been visiting friends for the past week has returned to her home. E. F. Johnston and wife and Miss Flo Kreamer left this morning for a two weeks trip to Williamsport, Lock Haven and other places. Farmers in our section have begun cutting their oats. Supt. W. C. Johnston soon expects to break ground for a dwelling on the land lately bought of Dr. J. C. Fruit. One word describes it-"perfection.' Hartzell, Proprietor Peter Jackson, the colored pugilist, has arrived from England. He was shown the articles of agreement for his fight with Corbett and expressed himself as well satisfied. He is satis fied to meet Corbett if Mitchell whips him, as he has an old score to settle. Regarding the place of fighting he said: "My only stipulation will be that the contest must be held north of Mason and Dixon's line. I have no desire to fight in the South and am willing to fight in any place decided upon by Corbett." Jackson said that while in London he had frequently talked with Mitch ell, who, he said, could be expected here very soon. Mitchell, he added, is not particular where he fights and will go where the most money can be He is looking well, having reduced his weight substantially. ' Friendship Fire Co. will hold a fes tival at Oak Grove, on Friday and Saturday evenings. There is considerable travel on the Sunday trains on the P. & R. from this town. A cow of B. Stohner was run over by the B. & S. engine on Monday, and had a leg broken. The Bellefonte team beat the Bloomsburg nine at Athletic Park by a score of 13 to 10.
