Everybody familiar with agricultural

fanners. Although its berries, fresh
mid dvieJ, Hoineiimes constitute an ar

the elder-burry wino often advertised,
yet it in not a favorite. Once routed iu

lli'iiry Taylor, a thrifty farmer with
a tasi? for UaGoratitifj his grounds, gave
an iigent an order for 11 quantity of or
unincnt.:l shrub.-i, maltiug selections
from a book of plales aud deseriptious.
Among other ii.:ture9 in tho book was
one of N'-'f 'mts. "a beautiful, flowering

no hint of tho common name. Taylor
was not a botanist, aud did not suspect
thut it was tho elder. Throe specimens
ut two dollars apieco was his order for
tho hrub, besides quite a number of
other botanical ornaments.
Spring arrived, aud also the agent
with thu trees. One after another was
examined, compared with the bill, and
accepted. At length the lambucu waa
brought forth. Taylor eyed the shrubs
with puzzled brow, studied of them,
and tasted the bark.
For two days he and his hired men
with two teams and a subsoil plough
had been rooting out the "hateful
elder-bushes " from a certain field,
while soro hands and aching muscles
attested the severity of the task.
