' Cleveland to open the Fair.
THE PRESIDENT WILL TOUCH THE BUT
TON IN A VAST CROWD'S PRESENCE.
President Cleveland will touch off
the World's Fair on May 1 in the pre
sence of from 100,000 to 150,000 peo
ple. .The ceremonies will be held at
the east front of the administration
building. There was considerable ob
jection to the massing of so large a
crowd, as it was feared that it might
ruin the lawns and flower gardens, but
these were overcome.
A substantial platform just in front
of the administration building will be
connected with Machinery Hall so
that President Cleveland will only
have to step to the speaker's table to
touch the button. It is proposed to
mass all the electric launches, gondo
las and other water craft in the basin
and in front of the building.

I feel it my duty to say a few words

Where Will Our Insane be Kept?

There is a discouraging state of affairs
at Danville. The hospital was built
for the accomodation of 700 patients,
but now there are i.aoo in the place
with the number increasing. It is pos
sible that the . trustees will refuse to
accept any more patients sent by poor
directors or overseers. A new build
ing is badly needed and the legislature
should appropriate money imnjediate
ly for that purpose. Even the corri
dors and halls at Danville are crowd
ed with patients.
There are thirty women in Luzerne
county who own, occupy, and work
their own farms. , -
