location of the business office of this
paper. The entrance is through the
front door of J. G. Wells' jewelry
store, as it has been for the past four
years, and the office is in the rear end
of the room. A partition has been re
moved, the room newly papered and
painted, and the appearance veiy
much improved. Call in and see it.

as a rich soil. Ferns, rome of the be
gonias, and a few other plants prefer
to remain in the shade, but they like
a good light, such as comes from dif
fused sunshine. Put your fuchsias
where they will get the sunshine of the
forenoon, and give your heliotropes
and geraniums a southern exposure.
Plants like the Bermuda ally, azaleas
r.nd oleanders should be kept out of
strong sunlight if you care to have the
flowers last well. Be sure to give
them fresh air daily.

John Sutton, the venerable poet of
Stillwater, ha don more perhaps in
moulding the moral sentiment of the
local community than any person liv
ing in it. Though nearly four score
winters have frosted his locks, his lit
tle volume of "Songs and Poems" will
not cease to testify of his good spirit
and good works for many more score
winters to come. Though ere long
he shall lie beneath the clods, his
memory shall be honored by the com
munity in which he has been so con
spicuous and influential, lo I these
many years. He taught the Pine
Grove school in the winter of 1864 5
when it was yet located on the hill be
tween Joel Keefer's and Benton. He
was loved by his pupils, and his fel
low teachers of Benton enjoyed his
companionship and good qualities
every two weeks, their regular time of
meeting in district local institute for
mutual improvement.
There appears to be no limit to
snow. It is piled up in the roads to
such an extent that great canals or
channels had to be cut to facilitate
travel. The cuts are in many places
10 feet deep A sudden thaw would
cause the streams to play havoc along
their lines. I will not attempt to de
scribe the snow. It is simply white
and immense.
Soon after these items are in print
the inauguration of a complete, demo
cratic government will be in lull oper
ation. Yes, sir.
