There's Music in the Air.

as seldom that musical

The real secret in in the composition of
the paper. The tiU thread in secured by
patont, to bo sure, but the making of the
paper, the comjHiUuil of the ingredient,
is safo in tlio I cJ of J. Murray Crane,
who received t..e art from his father,
who made bonda for Salmon P. Chase,
Lincoln' Secretary of the Treasury,
away back in war times.
The puro linen pulp is In a big room,
looking or all the world hko any linen
pulp. Then comes J. Murray Crane with
a gripsack, lie and the "grip" enter the
room together, anj it is presumed that
ho ltxks tho door, for the door is locked
on the inside, aud the "grip" does not
look able to do it.
They are closeted a half an liour.
When they come out t!ie pulp goes to the
pner machiue, and Mr. Crane and the
grip go homo. But tho pulp is changed
by that visit and nohodv bus beeu ublo

Htt Law of Phyilrt.
The fact is known to most persons In a
general way th . locomotives aud other
forms of machinery have an almost
human faculty of getting "tired" at
times; and it is more dellnitoly known
to all men who shave eseciully If they
shnve themselves that razors must havo
their seasons of rest in o der to develop
their best edges. It isii.t so well known,
however, that the same priuciplu is in a
sense a law of physics, aud that it ap
plies no less to such insensate things in
precious stones. That it does so apply is
vouched for by a Sit. Louis jeweler, who
says :
Any one in the business will tell von
what a heavy loss a man may incur by
jewels in his safe or ahovYuasw going nl
in appearance. All the cleaning in tho
world won't help tl.?m, and all the time
they aro getting to look more and more
shabby, uutil at last they have no salablo
value. If they are sent away to another
city they frequently brace up of their
own accord aud come back looking bright
mid lustrous.
Incredible, as such a statement may ap
pear to many persons, there is ample
reason for the belief that it is a matter of
H'rsonnl exHrionep, and one by no meant
noted for the first time by those whose
business throws them into daily contact
with geun. But this curious fact him a
higher bearing and application than IU
relation to physics. It is as trim with
respect to the priceless jewel of human
health as of any other jewel. Human
health needs a change of nir and sur
roundings at certain intervals, or it will
fade and lose luster. Tho lack luster eye
of the person who is not sick, but mere!
"run down," is the dulling of the jewel,
Happy are they who are so circumstanced
that they can take a day off, or a whole
week, Ixi polish up their health against
the sands of the seashore, or eveu with
the pleasant attraction that comes of con.
tact with uew natures und unfamiliar

There are lullahys for babies and waltzes
for young maidens; thero aro drinking
songs for the wild oat sowers and lovu
songs for them that love to tarry in tho
gloaming. But I beard last Sunday tho
one piece of musio that twanged upon
the heartstrings of the married peoplo.
Gilmore'8 band was playing "Reminis
cences of Mendelssohn," and a thousand
lie;wls were wagging an accompaniment.
Suddenly, by way of finale, the "Wed
ding March" struck up. Tho effect was
electrical. All over the audience the
wedded pairs looked at each other and
smiled tenderly. It was a reminiscence.
What happy visions it called upl
Here was a couple, homely, raw, from
the country evidently, who had just
started out to guide the plough together.
The march hnd been played for them in
the little village church not long ago, but
now they heard it played indeed.
They leaned a little closer together, nnd
her big hand, fixed out to kill in cotton
mits, which showed the wedding rin;,
sought his nnd held it.
And all through the audience I saw
signs of the pictures called up by that
fragrant and alluring bit of music. Old
couples and young, rich and poor, those
wlto live like cats and dogs together, aud
those who havo learned the pleasant al
chemy of forobenrance in wedded life,
all were for the moment bewitched.

f limine)"' Kuroprnn Interview,
Before one of Chnuucey If. Pepmv's
departures for Europo, says tlio New Yorlc
Tribune, tho probability of being ut
ticked by European reporters was sug
gested to him. Tho suggestion recalled
an incident which happened several ycui3
ago. "I remember," ho said, "that
ouce a Herman reportor called upon mo
and said that the newspapers of Ger
many hnd heard a great deal of the
American interviewer, and he thought
an American interview would help him
with tho paper which ho represented,
"One would think," said Mr. Ilepew,
"that there was no chance for fun there.
Hut after talking with the reporter for
an hour and a half I told him that I
really could uot give him any more time,
and then he wautud to know when ha
could come for an American interviow.
I told him : 'My dear fellow, you havo
been having it for an hour and a half.' I
afterward yielded to his earnest solicita
tions and dictated an interview, and af
terward corrected it The manuscript
