cursion train nt the switch. The force ol
tho collision tore the check valve from the
engine and poured ncnldlng steam and
water into the wrecked coachload of pas
sengers. Then ensued a scene of tcrrot
impossible to descrile. The passenger
were ut the mercy of tlie roaring, screech
ing monster ut their side. Through the
broken valve torrents of scalding steam
and water poured out upon thu helpless
victims.
Many of them were Denned down bv the
debris and wore horribly scalded. Two
were almost instantly killed, five were
fatally and six siverely injured. Five more
huve since died and a sixth cannot live.

tion company, lost his life near the Keno
saw Fourteen-Mile island ou JukoGeorge,
Sunday.
. Iu the afternoon, while Mr. Barney and
hin boy were on the lake shore, the little
fellow lost his footing, and with a cry of
"Father, suve me!" on his lips, pitched
into the water. The father threw himself
head Urst Into the lake, grasped the boy,
and with the lad still iu his urms, wo
drawn athore by t wo men who chauoed to
witness the accident.
A glauce sutllced to tell the story. The
forehead of the superintendent had been
crushed lu by a projection of rock which
be must have struck under water. A phy
sician was called as quickly as possible,
but Mr. Btirney wus deud. Mrs. Barney is
heartbroken.

decision of Mrs. Davis to make this city

her husband but freely expressed the feel

Mississippi and Virginia has been decided

now, from the Potomac to Hio Grande aud
from the Ohio river to the Gulf of Mex

surprise here. The complaint bus not yet
been written, but It probably will lie this
week. The couple have been married for
fifty years. Tlie wife's story charges cruel
and inhuman treatment. The general's
side of the story has not yet been told, but
It is reported that his answer to the com
plaint will be a general denial.

ignorance of tho voters and the influence
