Tuesday evening tho 18ih Inst,, witness
ed ono of tho most p'easant social events
in tho history Centralia, it being tho occa
sion of an evening party, given by Miss
Mary Murphy at tho residence of her
father, Judge Murphy on Locust Avenue,
in honor of her guest Miss Agnes Downey,
ofShamokin. The early pirt of the even
ing was very Agreeably passed in dancing,
vocal dnd instrumental music, and cards,
and at midnight tho dtning room was
thrown open, and the guests sat down to
a most decant collation. The tables were
very handsomely decorated with natural
flowers and fairly groaned under the
weight of tho numerous delicacies piled
upon them. After supper it is needless to
say, all present did ample justice, dancing
was resumed in the rooms down stairs by
thoso who were devoted to the beautiful
tcrpsichorcan art, while in tho spacious
parlors above, those who found no pleasure
In tho "dreamy waltr" amused thcmcelvcs
with music and various games. Tho merry
hours gilded by, all unheeded by tho gav
throng and new day was nearly four hour8
old when the guests dispersed for their
homes, each ono assuring the fair hostess
that they had spent ono of tho most enjo y-
abio evenings in their recollection. A list

cate. On Saturday the 15th, Paul Boscan, la
Pole, was discharged from the Centralia
Colliery by Outside Superintendent Thomas
Iteeao for disorderly conduct Tho .aw
Monday morning ho appeared at the Iteaker
and wanted to be taken back, but was re
fused; bo became very angry, and, going
to his boarding house, procured a revolver
and started once moro forlne mine.
Concealing himself near the breaker, he
waited patiently for the Superintendent to
appear. His actions wero discovered by
an employee, wbo notified Mr. Reese of his
danger, and 8 messenger was dispatched
for an officer. After some difficulty they
succeeded in disarming the desperate ras
cal and locked him up.
A desperate fight occurred at Montana,
Cocyngham township recently, says a dis
patch from Centralia to the Timet.
John Kostcnbauder, a farmer residing at
that place, was married about a year ago
to a Miss Lenden, of Red Tavern. Since
that time ho has been keeping up an inti
macy with a Mrs. Lenhart, a former sweet
heart, and has spent a great deal of his
tlmo in her company.
While Mrs. Kostcnbauder was visiting a
neighbor, Mrs. Lenhart appeared at the
houso and after watting a short time was
admitted by Kostcnbauder, who evidently
expecting her. Ills wife, however, returned
sooner than was expected, and upon enter
ing found them in a very compromising po
sition, Mrs. Lenhart fled, while Kosten-
bauder sprang upon his wife and beat her
shamefully. Ills father who lives a short
distance away, hurried to tho scene in tlmo
to;save Mrs. Kosten hau ler life, ai her b us.

brought to this place where he was given
a hearing and sent to Bloomsburg Jail.
Mrs. Kostcnbauder brought suit against
Mrs. Lenhart and she was held under $350
bail to appear at the next term of court.
