ent from the ordinary in this or adjoin
ing lands to point to anything strange
excepting a large surplus spring at the
foot of the hill in a quaemire that
seems to have no bottom. 1
In the last statement the gentleman
suggests a theory to account tor th
strange behavior of the hill. It is
probablo that the elevation has for its
loundation a thin stratum of Niagara
rock resting on this bog. A slight
disturbance would cause this rock to

easily failed in some respects. Late in
tho fall tho farmer usually has his barn
well stored with graiu and hay, and
cares very littlo about ryo as a special
food; but it is well known that as long
as the stock can procure a proportion
of green food, there is greater thrift,
and milk cows give a greater quantity
of milk, owing to the dietary effects of
food. Unless the tanner
literary and mechanical, any common-
sense reader is capable of judging.

The gentleman further stated :

At one time a laborer was hired to
dig a well near the house, but after
going down tome twenty feet the

Mr. Bvram Bildwin, who owns the
farm, states that to his certain know-
ledgu the hill has been "shaky" for
over fiftv-foven years. He ha-i exp n
enced the peculiar sensations, and only
about two months ngo his wife and
hired hand felt a violent jar about
four o'clock in the morning. Their
dwelling is about three-eighths of a

occurrence, mid it is no doubt caused

Another peculiar featuro of this
ulaco is that the needl of tho compas
will not point to tho magnetio pole, but
inclines to tho east. Tho temperature,
loo, is unlike that of the surrounding
region. Tho samo thermometer will
show a change of eoveral degrees in
goiug from different parts of the farm
to tho bill not always cooler, not
always warmer, but never tho same.
