Doyle's "Reminiscences and Opinions," winch have attracted a great deal of attention in London, will be republished in this countrj at once. Doyle was professor of poetry at Oxford. His reminiscences begin in 1813, when he was S years old, and end in 1SS3. Mr. S. J. W. Benjamin, who was for some years American minister to Persia, lias re corded his observations of that country in an illustrated volume entitled "Persia and the Persians." It is the most recent work on modern Persia. There are no less than thlrty-6lx different missionary societies represented in India, besides ten or more private missions.
