routo of tho railroad which Is to bo built
from Slilckshlnuy to Milton, In Northum
berland county. It Is not known with
exactitude) who aro the originators of the
road, but it Is supposed that It U to bo n
branch of the Pennsylvania. Tho new
road will connect with the lino of that
company at Mocanaqun, crossing on tho
present railroad bridge. From Bhlckshtnny
the road will tun by way of Jones and
Mlllvlllo In Columbia cuunty through to
Milton, total distance of about fifty, six
miles. It will tap an Important lumber
district, open up tho hitherto prlmevnl
woods of the North Mountain and un-
doubtcdly be a great boom to that section-

posed road from Milton to Hhickshinny bo
constructed it will divert u large amount
of trade from Uloomsburg, and take it to
those two towns, thus virtually cutting off
the county seat from the comincrco of the
uuner end of the county. As it is to the
interest of all concerned to have easy com
munlcation with the county seat, tho resi
dents of the upper end should use every
effort in their power to secure the early
construction of the Fishlngcreek railroad.

ground taken must be paid for at exorbit.

we givo them as we got them. Ono report
says that Kane and hl wlfu were sitting in
thu cabin of his caual bout ut Post's whurt,
where ho had tied up for the night. Mrs.
Kane, who is about 40 yeais old, told her
husband that a ceitain man had madu Im
proper proposals to ner. Kano replied, "If
thu proposal Is repeated,, you should treat
him so." With these words, ns though to
illustrate his meaning, he drew Ids revolv
er, leveled it ut his wife and pulled thu

Another report Is that Kane's son-in-law
