Ferrets,
A correspondent of tho iSim writes
to ask where he can buv a pair ot fer
rets and what they will cost. Feirets
can bo purchased at most bird fancier's
stoics, bat are azpensive.
"I can sell a good pair of trained
ferrets for S15," said the young man
in a store in Fulton street. "We have
a large demand for them, and Mr.
Isaacson is now in the South purchas
ing new btock. Tho best breeds of
ferrets are the wliito kind, and the

"They don't Woit outside tho hole, as
the cat or dog must do. They go light
in, catch tho rat, kill him, and eat up
every bit of fiim. Nothing is left to i
tell tho tale. Their work is far clean-1
or than that of poison. The ferret's
body is so flexible that it can glide
easily into the smallest rat-hole. Tho
largest rat has not a particle of chanco
with it. Indeed, the rat knows the
moment it sees the ferret that its
doom is scaled and makes little resist
ance. "A ferret is as domestio an animal as
a cat, and makes a nice nnd affection
ato pet. As long as any rats remain
in the house its owner need give it no
food. It will supply itself with abun
dance, and no fears need bo enter
tained that it will run away. Ferrets
are very hard to raise to full growth j
and, for theso reasons, they aro expen
sive. When mature, however, they
are hardy and healthy, ihero is a
great demand for thorn among the pro-
prietors of largo Mores, where rats
