seemed to prevail. They throw mo on
a horse behind a littlo fellow.and I start
ed off through tho woods. It seemed to
mo that wo had traveled an age, when
wo reached a dealing in tho centro of
which stood a email house. Several
men woro gathered in tho yard, and I
noticed excited women moving around.
Our arrival was greeted with a loud
shout.
"'Where's Abraham?" asked tho
thoughtful man of our party when wo
reached the gate. 'Abrani would be out

with gray hair and a hickory shirt.
" 'Wo vo got mm, Undo Abe, said the
man who proposed to nnng, 'and we ro

I had gone about two miles wh'en a man
on a horso overtook mo 'The old man
must see you,' he said ; 'hurry back.' I
trudged back to the farm lio'use. Tho
old man was at tho gate. 'What do
you want?' I asked. 'I wanted to say,
young fellcr,thatit would bo a good idea
for you nover.nevor to steal a dog.' Then
i walked ten miles to the railroad. 1
have thought the matter over since, and
blamed if 1 intend to steal a dog,

had sent her.

upon an immense rock which rises to an

who painted it is a mystry which I

which, I believe, has never been solved.

time was a wild grapo vine, of which
Tennessee is so prolific, and some
Indian might havo been by this means
down over the dizzy bluff, and when
