tho natural result of tho first, 1 havo fed
com, bat, barley, buckwheat, flax and sun
flower seeds, and have found nothing equal
to nholo wheat as food for fowls. For young
chicks it Jcetpi elpecially adapted. AlUr
two or three days of feeding on" soft food tho
young chickens will pick up the wheat quilo
greedily, and will thrive on It as on nothing
el'o, Growing chickens havo n largo demand
for lirao, and especially bono uiatcrlalnnil
this is moro nearly suppliei! in whole wheat
than in any other grain. If wheat were two
dollars per bushel it'would still bo' tho cheap-
ostfood for young chicks, farmers can,
however, ecoboiniie by feeding wheat screen
ings and damaged wheat, which, though
unsalable, is nearly as good for chicken feed.
In' feeding4 rerecnings, if there are many weed
'feeds, due allowance- should be niado, as, they
are not so nutritious as the wheat. Some
kindsof weed tocdj are hurtful to chicken's;
but these they will reject if fed whole. Grind
ing weed secdj is pf littlo benefit except to
get rid of them, nnd this might 'better' be
done by, fire,, as they aro of so. little worth.
