The Lenten season, always vigorously ob served In Washington, is just over, and the gay and fashionable areeurferjing from their temporary seclusion, in beiimilul, almost as freili, and far more interesting than the lilies of the field. Since the recent unpleasantness be tween Mrs. Oliver and her aged suitor, men are in the habit of looking at the Treasury girls with a timorous iipprehen-iun that is quite unique, as if each tine nf them might bo a dangerous and explosive crypotogain, Mrs. Oliver, now thoroughly advertlseel, has taken to the lecture field to swell the title of vile aud vapid oratorial drivel. The public mind has loni; since been made up on the merit nf the question. The re is as yet no new light on these; questions, and their importance connected with the lact that they will not be auswere 1 for at least a month makes the debates very tedious. There is a very strong determination on the part of some members of Congress to introduce leg islation outside of that for which lhospeci.il session was called.
