theory. His remarks were well chosen and
calculated to convince many who were in doubt.
Senator Huekitlew was the next spenker. In

posed the sophistries of greenback orators, and
sbuwe 1 plainly that the Issue of 11 depreciated
cnrieney would Injure r.ilher than better the
people. As being the ha-er money it would
lloat, whilst the better money would he hoarded
by misers, banks, corporations, ,Vc. His argu
ment had n telling t fleet upon his bearers, and
he who was not e'onvinced, is bcyoml the force
of argument, or the consideration of facts.
He was lollowid by Col. J. (. Frcc, who
excused himself from making an extended
speech, as he proposed to eliscuss the rpiestions

Captain Hrockway, the Democratic nominee
for Congress, was next introduced, After stat
ing that he had only leturned homo Saturday
night, and had not exptcted to make a speech
he pioceedcd to discu-s the candidates named
and the State issues involved. He briefly re
vieweel Hepublican legislation in reference to
currency and finance. He aNo showed that i
vote for Orvis was re-ally a vote fur Gen. Al
bright, the Hepublican nominee, and the man
who headed the forces which invaded the Fish
ingcreek. He counseled union and united action.
Mr. C. G. llsrklay made a brief speech, which
was well received.
The meeting then adjourned with ckMrs for

died at his home in Ixjcust township, on Friday
last. The funeral took nlace on Monday anil

which under the provisions of an act of Assem
bly annroved May 16lh 1874, must be filled by
the appointment of the Governor, the death not
