The Hepublican Senatorial Conference for
this district was held at Williamsport on luesuay
and went through the form of nominating a Can.
didate for Senator, All the counties were repre

of Danville. Mr. Heaver was nominated on the
first ballot.
The republicans hesitated a long time as to
whether they would name a man of their own

to take hack what ihey had been saying about
the new party, they finally concluded to make a
separate nomination. The man of their select

have been tltg he would have attended to their
rights, interests, and wants at Washington, so
far as lay in his power. In a word, men who
have faced death together, are wore firmly
bound in friendship than by political, religious
or other ties. l'.rliaps, also, they think a Un

Tbe first speaker was I le.n. Geo. I). Jackson,

remarks showeil the fallacy of Iho greenback

calculated to convince many who were in doubt.
Senator Huekitlew was the next spenker. In

sbuwe 1 plainly that the Issue of 11 depreciated

He was lollowid by Col. J. (. Frcc, who
excused himself from making an extended
speech, as he proposed to eliscuss the rpiestions

Captain Hrockway, the Democratic nominee
for Congress, was next introduced, After stat

who headed the forces which invaded the Fish

Mr. C. G. llsrklay made a brief speech, which
