The traverse jurors were discharged last week
on Thursday afternoon, there being no cases
open tin the list for trial. In discharging Ihem
the Court said that a third of the week still re
mained and there were no causes ready. He
hoped that hereafter counsel would not consent

L. C. Kline, a son of Col. W. F. Kline of
Beach Haven, commliled suicide at Mulilen
burg, Lmeriie county, on Tuesday morning of

that place, becamo tired of Ihe vicissitudes of

learned Ihem are as follows! Mrs. Kline, the
wife uf Ihe suicide, nro-e early and after gelling
breakfast, which she ale alone, her husband
not feeling well enough to get up at that hour,
she prol ceded across Ihe road lo the wasliplatc
lo do Ihe week's washing. After kindling the
lire she went lo the Imlroom where her husband
was to change Ihe bedclolhlng when sho saw ho
was fisl sinking Into the repose of death. The
neighbors were at once culled In and It was not
until some one present turned the head of Ihe
dying nun that the frightlul wound was expand
to sight. Immediately below the right temple
was the ghastly hole made by the bulkt before
It went crushing through the skull on its
deadly mission. Dr. liriggs was summoned at
once to the scene but of no nvall. The aim of
the sutcide had been too sure. He was past the
reach of medical skill. After lingering in an
unconscious state until late In Ihe afternoon
death put an end to the life which he helped to
lifcaril. The cause of Ibis rash act will never
be known, not a word escaped the unfortunate
man's lips after the deed was committed. It
was probably brought about by a general de
Pirondency from various causes known be-t to
himself. The deceased was about 1!G years of
age ami leaves n wife and child lo mourn his
sad fate. He was a son of Col. W. l' Kline,
now arcs dentof Reach Haven.
The remains were brought here at noon yes
terday and interred in Ihe cemetery on the hill,
after which Kev. George Warren pnached the
funeral sermon. Subsequently 'Squire Glace,
acting as coroner, summoned n jury to Inquire
into the cause of his death. A decision had not
been rendered last evening, but it will probably
be that he came to his death from a pistol shot
fired by his own hand while laboring under
temporary insanity. The deceased was a bene
ficiat member of Muhlenburg Lodge 1, O. of
O. F.

Remains IiiKNTinr.n. The remains of the
man found drowned in the river opposite Milion
on Saturday, were taken from the grave on Sun
day and identified by his father as Henry Smith
from East lluli'jlo, Union county. He had been
missing from home for four weeks. He was
subject to fits, and it is probable that in crossing
the river he was seized with an attack, and
drowned while ill that condition.
Later. From the Lewisburg Journal of last
week we learn that .Mr. Smith was mista
ken in Iho body. That piper says: When Mr.
Smith heard of the finding of the body above
referred to he concluded it was that of his son

Matilda Stanley, known as the Gypsy Queen,
was buried at Woodland cemetery, Dayton,
Monday. Twenty-five thousand people were
present, including representatives of prominent
gypsy families. The ceremony was conducted
by a minister of the United Brethren church,
the children of the Queen throwing themselves
on the grave and filling the air with lamenta
tions. Dayton is the headquarters of the Gyp
sies of this country, and the husband of ihe
Queen lives near the city and owns a large tract
of ground.

Secretary Sherman has abandoned at the last
moment his intention of "resuming" to-day in
silver dollars. He believes the country is ready
for resumption now, nnd that there is not the
slightest need, unless it be a legal one, of wait
ing until January 1, 1S79. We can all hope
that the good results Ihe Secretary expects will
follow resumption of specie payments, A 1 i I tie

Before Representative Small, of South Caro
lina, left here a few days since, he said he ex
pected to be re elected to the House of Repre
sentatives, and that tne other Republican would
be elected also. He was much more hopeful
than rat olher Republicans, however, nearly
all of them believing a full Democratic delega
tion will come from the Stale. That Hampton
will succeed Patterson as Senator is certain.
