scene of the stoppage of railroad traffic on
tho Lehigh and Bloorasburg llailroad, a di
vision ot the Delaware, Lackawanna and
Western llailroad. No tiains have passed
this depot, with one single exception, since
the inception of the strike. Last evening-
representative yesterday, is said to furnisli
the Forsyths with & majority of their babies.
She has been seen to enter there and also
1703 Tasker street a number of times. When
tho undertaker, a very reputable man, who
has his ollice on South Thirteenth street,
tho word passed over tho wire that tho "bold 1 called at tho Forsyth's to make prepara-
soldier boys" were cn route to suppress the
strikers. This news was known by tho mob
as soon as by tho best of citizens, and very
soon after gangs of men in masks were tear
ing up the track. At daybreak this niornlnc
an unusal signal was given and the hurrying
to and fro aroused the populace. Men rush-
ed to their front doors and on the sidewalks
aud gazed In wonderment upon the specta
cle of seeing the town in possession of tho
militia ; nor wero they given timo to reflect
upou the condition of the immediate sur
roundings before the hoys in gray and blue
had gobbled them up unceremoniously.
No excuse for being out at so unseemly an
hour availed. The Burgess, editors, land
lords and deacons aliko with the striker were
rushed into tho depot aud detained until
identified arid vouched for by the railroad
officials. Others, to tho number of some
seventy-five, were put on a train and moved
off. Tho troops numbered three thousand,
iucludincr some four hundred regulars. The
latter had deployed in a skirmish line about
ono mile south of the place and surrounded
it. Tho orders were to arrest every man
found upou the streets and the command
was fully obeyed. At about noon two other
tlons for the burial of ono of the children,
he met the womau Kenny or Canning, who
said tho child's name was Minnie Martin,
nnd sho also gave the name of the mother.
The name of McAllister was given as that
of ono of the babies. The last burial, ono
week ago yesterday, was that of the Martin
child. The Forsyths told one of the neigh
bors that the namo of another of the chil
dren was cither Nicholson or Oodey. For
Its keep they got $25, with a protuise of
more, ror another child they said tuey had
received $125, A handsome piano was re
moved to a Chestnut street store yesterday
from their house. They claimed it was giv
en them for taking care of a child. The
handsome Brussels carpet aud furniture that
adorn tho rooms of the house are, according
to their admission, presents received for car
ing for another child. When spoken to on
tho subject of their calling, they answer that
they have always made their living that way
and it is none of anybody's business. There
aro but two children in the house now, a boy
about ton weeks old and a girl about eighteen
months old. They were taken there a Bhort
time ago and were apparently Btrong nnd
hearty. A lady who saw them yesterday
ciBion based on an opinion given by Justice
Miller. Now this gang of patent swindlers
are attacking the heaviest millers with suits,
expecting to terrify all the others. They havo
singled out the Jewells of Brooklyn, the
Hexalls of Richmond, nnd my mills at Min
neapolis. They have put me under bouds
in the enormous sum of $250,000, pend
ing the conclusion of injunction proceed
ings.
"I learn that the rascals propose to be
magnanimous, and to grant licenses to such
millers as will recognize the validity of their
patent, for the moderate sum of $C,000 for
each run of stones, which for this city
alone amounts to the vastBiim of $1,200,000.
While primarily this great sum would come
from tho millers, really it all comes out of
the farmer aud consumer at last, aud they
are the real people most interested iu the
defeat of this enormity. As there are over
0,000 runs of stones in the United States,
this license will amount to $30,000. We are
now going to bring this great outrage before
Congress next winter and try to have the
patent cancelled. The grain-growing sec
tions of the West are indignant at tho ex
posure of this enormous fraud, and the
grain-consuming East ought to be equally
aroused, for tho attempted tax on the chief
necessary of life effects both alke."
