Messrs. Cowles, Gibbs and Peacock returned
from a fulling trip on Saturday bringing with
them 83 fino trout of more than usually good
t-ize. They report that the water in Fishing
creek is '"so cold, like ice."
Col. H. Bruce Hickctts, of Wilkes Barre,
well known in this county, where lie formerly
resided, has been chosen Firet Vice President
of the Society of the Army of Ihe Potomnc,
which meets in June at Providence 11. 1. Glad
to hear of it.
Peter S. Luby, ofConyngham township, has
' been found guilty in the Pottsvllle Court of the
ilarceny of $10 from Samuel Maurer, and as
sault and battery on Cornelius Daniels in Lo
gan's saloon, Ashland, and sentenced to two
.years imprisonment, $10 fine and costs.
It is unnecessary for any one to coll our at
tenliou to the mechanical appearanco of tho
Colvmiuan for a few weeks past. We aro pain
fully aware of (he fact that it has not been ut
all creditable. We must plead in excuse, first,
the miserable quality of paper furnished us,
and second a delay in getting new rollers. Tho
supply of poor paper is exhausted and we do
not propose lo have any more of it. Our new
rollers will be dono before next week, and then
we shall try to maintain our former reputation
for beauty and neatness in mechanical make

weekly Xew Era, published at Lancaster by
ex-Senator John II. Warfel, and willed by J.
M. W. Gel-t the veteran editor and founder of
the Etprttt. Tho paper is Republican but not
of the Cameron stripe in fact the transfer of
the U. S. Senatorship from-Simon to Don was
the occasion of Mr. Geist'a withdrawal from the
Expreu, and llie beginning of the -Vein Era. Tlie
paper is a beautifully printed and well edited
journal of eight pages and with so good a con
ductor can hardly fail of success.
Another feature of the jail combination is the
fact that the adoption of the Wetzel plan, and
all contracts to be made under it were farmed
out in advance, Wetzel being leader of the Ring,
and KniK but the figure head. The most ex
