cow ot Juliii w . Kramer was caught in the
tct of running tt large., and was put in the
pound. Aflir the consliblo dad walked through
much mud to gather lie r in, Mr. Kramer wan-

not permitted to do so and the cow was locked
up. This excited the anger of the owner and
wilh much haste he rushed to the Coi.umuiax
office, piid up his subscription, and ordered his
paper slopped, because the junior editor
voted in Town Council for tlie ordinance re
quiting rattle to be shut up. Hut this did not
appease his wrath. The more he thought of it
ihe m.iilder he got mid finally arrived at such
a pilch that he wi nt to E-q. Drawer's office
mid paid a judgunnt which the senior editor
obtained .ig.iiu-t him for back subscription. Now
his vengeance is satisfied and his revenge is
swut.

contractor Xat Me Kay, who wilh two hirelings
asMiulted Col. A. K. MiClurein Philadelphia,
a few days since. The Wilkes Harre lleconl of

and very proud it must feel thereat. Tlie J.'cc
on( speaks of McClure as a "persistently scur
lilous joiirnalKt," for whom few will have any
sympathy, and expresses the opinion that the
geiiTa) verdict will be that "it served McClure
right." It uli-o speaks of "a black eye and
sundry olhcr damage" aud the "thrashing" re
ceived by the editor ol the IVmea which is
news indeed, as McKay's throat grasped by
McClure's vigoroRs ,iand shows the only mark
of damage from Ihe encounter. The Record
has not addid to its reputation by its defence
of a man who by his brutal assault proved him
self both a law-brcakcr and a coward. We are
clad to know Ihat the universal sentiment of
the papers and the people is that McKay de
serves nothing but execration. He could have
taken no better way to prove that McClure's
charges against him were true.

supervisors, which is especially important lo

A wagon was standing on one side of the road
and on the other the end of a log protruded,

pice and killed. It appears that the supervi

Convocation of the Episcopal Church met in
Lock Haven on April 10th. Hev. Dr. Ilreck
presiding. Four parishes were represented by
14 clergyman and lay delegates. On Wedues

generally peaceful and prosperous, though con
tributions have suffered somewhat from the
general financial depression. The pastoral re
lation between ltev. Robert While and the
Shiloh Church of St, Mary's was dissolved, the
congregation consenting on (lie ground of Ina
bility to give a sufficient support.

At a previous meeting at Jersey Shore a cer
tain Protest of Rev, D. J. Waller had been re
fused admi-sion to record. At this full meeting
tho vote was unanimously reconsidered, the pa
per admitted to record, and all parties appar
ently satisfied.
The Devotional Services were well attended
and interesting , The opening sermon on Tue-
lay afternoon was preached by tho retiring
Moderator, Dr. Watson of Milton. In the
evening Ihe Lord's Supper was celebrated, the
services bei"g conducted by the Moderator, by
Hev, Jos. Xesbit of Loik Haven, and by Rev,

W. Hoal of Cairo, Pa.
The members were much pleased with the
appearancoof our town j the families who en
tertained them seem to havo enjoyed their
visit highly, regiettiiig only that their slay was
so short ; and the whole community Is no doubt
well pleased that (here came along with them
the traditional "Prebylerial Spring rain"
