The Monroe Democrat in speaking of Hester'
connection with th? murdc of Mr. Rca, says :
He was the Grst to suggest the murder of the
Superintendent, and on the day of the tragedy
led the gang ot murderers to the spot wbere the
crime wis committed, mien it wa round
that Rea did not posses the money of which
they Intenihdlo rob htm, It was Hester who
gave the order to kill him, saying, "Dead men
tell no tales," and it was he who fired the
fifth and fatal shot which penetrated the brain.
A Hester was not present when Rea was
killtd, a fact conceded by both prosecution And
defense, it i difficult to see how he rauld have
tired that "fifth and fatal shot." Tho whole
tory i a yarn. Hester didn't lead the mur-
lerer to the spot, nor go himself, nor did he
tire any shot any where at anybody. Such fla
grant misrepresentation are inexcusable in
view of the many correct reports of the trial
which have been put in print.
It ha been proved beyond a doubt that the
pretty little Spitz dog, th it lu been i great a
avoritc. is rather more unsafe to have about
the house than nitroglycerine. Hydrophobia,
the most terrible of all diseues, hu increised
marvelously of late both i i this country and
tbroad, and in a very large ruijority of caes it
has been trace 1 to the bite of the Spitz. So
fatal has been tin; effect ofthebiteof this dog
that vigorous nieaiuires have been taken in
New York and tlitsj Slate for iu cxtermina-
tinn, and it hts been proposed to introduce a
bill into our Legislature looking to that end.
N'u matter how mull the wound inflicted by
the teeth of the Spitz, the result I death uud
ill it most horrible form. It i but a few day
ince that a baby wa killed in its grandmotl
.t' arm bv a jealous Spitz dog, and the only
wound discoverable was a slight scratch on
ihefaceof the child. Ily all means let the
logs he done away with.
