been unable to ascertain the ficts or lo find any
of the pirties. Uunior says that Bennett his

ting the matterand called several witnesses. Dr.
Phelps who acted as I'eiincll's surgeon was
brought before them, but on refusing to an
swer any questions was committed to jail for
thirty days fur contempt. It is to be regretled
that these Iwu young bloods did not kill each
oilier in their duel, Their honor and the law
would then have been vindicated in the most
expedient and efiectual manner.
Among those lost in the terrible Ashtabula
railroad disaster was Miss Minnie Mixer of
Iiufialo N. Y. She was a young lady of rare
accomplishments. On the 23.1 of December
she serveel as one of ihe bridesmaids at the
wedding of Mi's Mary Mercur, daughter of
ludce Mercur of Touanda. She had been
homo from there but a few days, and was on
her way to Chicago to spend the winter with
friends. Nothing was found of her but a !oc.k-
et. so complete was Ihe work of the fire. The
very contimplation of Ibis heartrending acci
dent makes one shudder wilh indescrilmble hor
ror, and she was but one of more than one him-
i ml and filly who perished on that f.iliful
night. Will any one be held responsible for

look with suspicion on Ihe canvasser for any

lished prices, and who offers to throw in framed
pictures and other goods rottillered in the pa
per. In leaving a place, the scoundrel always
forgets to pay his board bill. Ho is using a
receipt now with Oeorge Stinson it Son printed

per year for the Weekly edition, and SI per
