England's marriage statistics have been
analyzed to show the probabilities of mar
riage for women at different ages. Suppos
ing the sum of a woman's chances of mar
riage to bo 100, she exhausts, between tho
ages of 15 and 20 jears, fourteen and a half
chances. If she lives unmarried from 20 to
25, fifty-two more of her chanceB have van
ished into thin air. If she remains unmar
ried for five more years, she will turn 30
with only fifteen and a half chances out of
her hundred left. After 35 she has eleven
and a half chances, and at this point the
statistician gave up his calculation, except
that he assures us that even If a woman has
lived umrarried sixty years, shr still has the
tenth of a chance of getting married out of
the hundred with which she is supposed to
have started life.
