Fattening Iloas. In rogard to tho
number of times per day hogs should
bo fed, when put up for fattening, my
oxporieuco in tho matter is thla :
Whon hogs aro us old ni thoy should
b", after putting them in tho pen and
feeding them somowhat plentifully for
six or eight days, they will then bear
full feeding, and they should havo nil
that thoy can eat and I caro not
whether it is given in ono feed or
flvo. Hut about ono day in cacli wook
I liko to feed a llttlo sparingly, so as to
letlhcmgotaliltlo hungry. Turning
lings intoa corn-field 1 consider a wasto
ful way of feeding. Still, 1 think I
havo never scon hogsfatlon faster than
when thoy woro feeding thom3olvos in
this manner. I do not think it bo3t to
givo full feed to hogs at as early an
ageassomodo. Putting thorn to pas
ture and giving them somo grain to
keep thorn thrifty, I regard until thoy
aro twolvo to sixteen months old. Jiy
this tlmo thoy havo ago and constitu
tion to bear, being put up nnd full fed.
In this way thoy will tako on flesh and
fatten very fast. When hogs aro ponned
up to bo fatted, they frequently fail, I
think, to get water enough. It is ac
cording to my experionco that wo havo
to salt and water our stock fat, as well
as feed them fat. Cor. Gin. Gazette.

Tlio Panic
"What's it all tibuulV" said ono of
Mm. Holl'u ducks to hor frloud, as they
lisloned to n splashing nolso In tho lit
tlo brook dam.
"I cannot think," quacked Duckey;
"let's go and see."
Ami thoy sailed down tho brojk to tho
plaeo, and found a great plcco of wood
which had fallen ncross tho bank, and
tho watt r was splashing over It. Tho
rest of tho duck:, s.-blug theio two lu
such a hurry to got to this spot, followed
supposing somo frodi plan of operations
for tha day was being projected, or that
a new nest of snails had been discover'
cd. So they waddled Into tho brook
and swam off lu thosnno direction.
It was dlfllcult for thoir two compau
ions to persuade them of tho truth ; and
thoy all quacked soloudlu thoir inquir
ics, that a hen, who was taking hor ten
llttlo chickens for a morning walk, told
them lo remain very quiet under tho
wall, whllo sho wont to tho watcr-sido
to sco what was tho matter, and to
mind nnd not touch tho corn that would
bo thrown down for them, till sho rC'
turned.
Whether her clucking and tho in
creased quacking wero favored by tho
wind I can't say, but tho sound went
over tho churchyard into Frcok tlio
Shepherd's gardon, whero Drover lay
dozing lu thosun. llo started up, prick
ed up his oars and bounded away.
A cow that was grazing In tho lane,
scolng him scamper off at such a rato
thought it wlso to follow him j so hav
ing 111 led hor mouth, sho walked delib
erately round tho corner to tho plaeo
thatDrovor scomod to mako for. In
his way ho saw tho potter's horso stand
ing In tho Uedo Itouso closo. "Hoy,
Drover," said tho horse, "what's tho
matter."
"Who knows V" said Drovorj "I'm
going to see. Don't you hear tho
nolso?"
So tho horso wont up to tho hedgo of
tho close, nnd looked over on tho brook ;
but being old and tired, ho couldn't
mako up his mind to go any nearer.
"Havo you heard?" said an old crow.
"What ?" said tho olhors.
"Oh I what a noiso I A fight,! should
think. I saw Drover running as if to
break his neck, and tho old cow and
tho potter's horso aro ou tho road, and
I dou't know who besides.''
"Oh, lot's go, by all means," said tho
crows. So thoy flow off, and took pos
session of tho willows tlut hung over
tho brook.
"What fun !" said u sparrow; "tho
crows havo gono to seo somo g raud do
ings eomowhero j let us go tool" and
away wont n wholo llock of sparrows,
who had been busy a moment beforo
with tho vicar's currant bushes.
"Very remarkable 1" said an old
Jackdaw. "What it can bo about I can
not divine. I propoco, my brethren,
to call a meeting, and consult upon
measures adequato to tho occasion."
And so all thojackdraws might bo seen
coming out of their holo3 in tho
church tower, and ranging themselves
along tho ledgo near tho top, on tho sldo
facing tho brook.
"Is linn invasion of tlio Fronch?"
said ono. ''Is it a company of mason3
coming to ropair tho church?" said
another ; "that would vastly moro In
torfero with us aud our nests."
Now, Just as Drover got to tho brook,
tho two ducks, having convinced thoir
friends that thoro was no secret caii30
for their movomont, tho wholo party
wero sailing calmly down tho stream.
andthoquacklughad completely ceas-
cu.
"What's it all about?" said Drover to
tho last of thorn.
"What?" said the duck.
"Why, tho noise," said Drover.
"Nothing?'' said tho duck.
"Nothing 1" said tho hen. uolnu b.ick
to horchlckons.
"Nothing 1" said Drover, with a mix-
turoof contomptand vexation at hav-
had his run for nothing.
"Did ho say nothing, Mr. Drovor?"
said tho old cow, who Immediately
proceeded to graze again.
"Nothing 1" called out thp old horso
from over tho wall. "How glad I am I
didn't go any farther P
"Nothing! nothing 1" Jabbered tho
sparrows. "What fun! Only think of
uiKing m nu tneso good folks." And off
thoy low lo tho currant treo3 again.
"Nothing!" said tho crows.who How
over to Mrs. Roll's yard to pick up tho
com mat tno lieu had loft.
"Nothing!" snld tho daws. "How
oxcoodlngly Iraporlluent to mako such
a fuss about nothing.
"Very!" said Kitty Koolby's old
brindled cat, who had boon feastlnir on
somo of tho deserted chickens, whllo
moir motner wa'i gono to find out' what
uionoisowasnil about." And so tho
water went on splashing over tho
wood j but thero was an end of tho
wonder.
