Accident. A few days since as ono

Planing Mill at Espy, named Lewis
He-s, was attempting to remove a spllif
ter from tho siding paw, his left hand
was caught and two fingers were cut off
and u third ono badly injured. Ho was
doing well at last accounts.

Bloom Poor District. Pino town
ship at tho late election, voted, by a
majority of CI, to itdd its namo to the
list of tlio3o now composing tho Dis
trict. Tho list is now, Bloom, Scott,
Sugarloaf, Greenwood, und Pine.
After tho next monthly meeting of
tho Espy Saving Fund which takes
placo on Wednesday, November 2d,
there will bo a premium placed on tbu
shares of stock sold, in proportion to
their value. Until that time however,
stock can bo purchased at regular rate.
Good. Tho gross receipts obtained
by tho ladles of St. Paul's Episcopal
Church at the lato Fair, amounted to
$300. So largo a sum mint certainly be
gratifying to the ladie-i, testifying as it
do s to tho appreciation in which their
efforts wero held. Thedinnrs furnish
ed during tho Fair were of tho very
bestcnaracter.

in town aro doing a good business. The
demand seems to Increa-e from year to
year, and bids lair to grow into a large
trade. Bloomsburg Is generally verv

Mortality. There would seem to
boquite an increase In tho number of
deaths amongst dogs und horses. Wo
have heard during tho past week of sev
eral, some caused by disease and others
alaj, by tho fell hand of tho destroyer.

The Lock Up. This public boarding
liouso has been qulto popular of late
and numerous visitors havo enjoyed its
accommodations. Tho town, however,
has hi en quiet for tho most part, and
wo doubt much whether there-Is a placo
of its size in tho State which is ns well
behaved as Bloomsburg. Peaco and or
der rtign nnd everything is lovely.
Frosts. The first hard frost of tho
wason occurred on Wednesday morning
last and had a most chilling effect upon
vegetation. Up to that time nothing
more than hoar frosts had been observ
ed and those only upon two or threo
occasions. In view of tho fact that tho
Rummer had been unusually warm
fro-its had been looked for early in
tho season.

bly adapted to tho bu-dness, being fin

by fire. Mr. McIIenry Is deserving of

The Weather. Tho most Investor

cf Fair wore simply perfect, and the

was amply evidenced. Tho stormy

farmers to do most of their plowing und

name of David Cooper, aged about fifty

from the old log houe, came out to tho
Holy City, married tho widow and took
her to his hermitage. Tho bridal couch '
is still there, tho work of his own hands
hewn out of solid timber, with an ax.
It Is a curiosity, well worth u placo In
any museum, and far moro useful tliero
than it would over boas a bedstead.
Hero they lived some mouths togoth
er, how happily tho walls do not state,
though they do statoalmost everything
else. This lovely homo lie called "Coop
er's Itetreat," and seemed very proud
of it, though the people in tho country
around called it "Cooper's Folly," nnd
it is by litis name it is known to day.
Some months after his marriage, ho

at night, his spouse, after what must
havo been a teriibly lonely nlght to her
