Helena, Montana, May 18. A
party of whltofnon Wlillo on a pleasure
trip to tho Falls of tho Yellowstone,
had their stock stolon ono night by. a
hand of Indians, known as "Sheep
Takers. " They pursued tho Indians at
day-break. Tho latter hastily construc
ted a raft and attempted to cross I ho
Yellowstono River. About midway
across, tho' current took tho raft down
tho stream, and Its eighteen occupants
wcro swept over tho Falls to Instant
death.
Nkw York, May 20. Captain Hall,
of tho steamship Pennsylvania, was
arrested oil n chargo of tho larcony of n
valuable bridal trousjoau, which a
young Philadelphia lady, a passenger,
had entrusted to his care for pnsjago
through tho custom house. When sho
inquired about It tho captain told her
tho rcmurkablo story of being over
hauled by tho inspectors nnd having
tlio nttlro taken from him.
Port Jauvis, May 19. At eight
o'clock last evening, a man named
Peter Ritch, employed on n canal, was
killed at Bolton Basin, two miles west
of Port Jnrvls. Ho was 9toerIng tho
boat, and when passing under a low
foot-brldgo ho neglected to remove tho
tiller of tho boat, which struck some
portion of tho bridge, which pulled tho
shabby structure to pieces, and It fell,
killing him Instantly. Ho was n Ger
man, and resided at Honesdalc, Penn
sylvania, where he loaves a wlfo and
flvo children.

ccufinn Convention of tho Protectant
Episcopal Church adjourned stiic die

New York, May 21 Thirty soldiers

dealer named Goorgo Freeman has beon
convicted of libel in the Mercer county

named Easburn had sold milk from

Cameron to-day reported from commit

sum of $2,000 for tho purchaso of silver

A man named Edward Bugan was shot

six hundred houses were burned to tho
ground, and thousands were rendered

Buffalo dispatches say that tho city Is
full of Fenians, billeted quietly on
their friends, and that largo bodies loft

received, dated at St. Albans Vermont,
four p. m,, that heavy fighting lias been

Saturday, May 21. Iu tho Senate,
yesterday, tho morning hour was taken
up with a dlscusslou of tho House reso
lution for the final adjournment, on
July 1. Tho debate resulted In tho
adoption of an amendment, by u voto
of 35 to 21, fixing Friday, July 15, ns
tho day.
In tho Hoiiso various bills wero re
ported from the Naval Committee: ono,
for tho relief of tho oillcers and crow of
tho ship Nightingale, was passed, os

from tho Japanese Indemnity fund for

Monday, May 23. Tho Senato con
tinucd its session of Friday until 7
o'clock Saturday morning, when the
Fifteenth Amendment bill, after being
so amended, as one Senator remarked,
"as' to bo past nil recognition," was
finally passed and substituted for tho
Houso bill by a voto of 43 to 8.
In tho House, various petitions for
tlio abolition of tho national banks, and
in reforonce to tho public debt, wero
presented. Tho Louisiana contested
election case Ncwsham vs. Ryan
was again diicussed, and tho report of
tho majority, declaring tho former
elected to tho scat, was finally agreed
to by n vote of "8 to 72.
Tuesday, May 21. In tho Senato,
yesterday, the morning hour was do
voted to the discussion of tho sixteenth
section of the Fifteonth Amendment
bill. Several amendments to tho np
propriation bill wore adopted, among
them one giving tho President author
ity to sendan expedition to tho North
Pole, nnd appropriating $"100,000 to
meet the expenses.
In tho Houso considerable business
was disposed of. Among a largo num
ber of new bills introduced were tho
following: To detect and punish elec
tion frauds; and reducing tho rates of
duty on foreign imports. A motion to
suspend tho rules for tho introduction
of a bill looking to a reduction of Import
duties on sugar, tea, coffee, salt and
iron, was lost, tho vote standing 102 to
80, less than tho two thirds required.
Wednesday, May 25. In the Sen
ate, tho legislative, appropriation bill
was discussed.
In tho Houie, n bill for tlio reduction
of internal taxes was introduced. At
1-10 p. m. tho Houso went into com
mltteo on tho diplomatic appropriation
bill. After tho commltteo rose it was
reported to tho Houso and passed.
T-Marshal Soult, onco showing tho
pictures he stole in Spain, stopped bo
fore ono and remarked: "I valuo that
picture very much ; It saved tho lives
of two very estimable persons." An
aid-do-camp whispered in tho listener's
car: "Ho threatened to havo them both
