Outrageous Murder.
Mn. AlvEXANj)Eii IIka, ofCent'ralla,
one of our best citizen", was foully
murdered on last Saturday. The facts
as near as we ran gather them aru u
follows:
On Saturday morning last he was
driving over to the Colliery of tho Lo
cust Mountain Coal and Iron Company,
of which he was Agent, It Is supposed
for tho purpose, of llnishing tho pay
ment of the hands which had not been
completed the day before. When about
a mile from Centralia, It is supposed ho
itoppedata watering trougli to waterhis
horse, and while doing this was attack
ed. Sis bullets penetrate.! his body j
two through his left breast, two through
his neck, and tho other two through
his head. Tho pistols wero evident
ly held close to his face a. It was con
siderably burned with powder. Tim
body was then carried about 200 yards
luto the wotals and concealed under a
bush. About toOUOO nrunuppowl to
have been taken lrom his body, besides
a gold watch.
The horfo was also led into the woods
and tied, but towards night It must
have been released or It could not havo
regained tho road. A couple of men
seeing It without a driver, got In and
took It to C'entrallu, whereupon tho
alarm was given, and an Immediate
aearch began. Tho body was not found
until Sunday morning.
Active efforts are being made to ar
rest the villains and It Is to bo hoped
they' will bo brought to Justice. That
auch a erlmo should be pornetratod in
broad day-light, and within sight of
centralln, Is a startling fact, and should
arouse all citizens to an ultcmpt to fer
ret out the criminals.

that power is now neutralized or over

It .o.m became ovldcnt, as the returns
came in, that the majority in thu couu
