an allusion lo tho vote on tho impeach

opportunity to explain his position.
Mr. Sumner nr-rucd In favor of an ad
journment on tho ground thfit Congro-is

must if legislative business was pro
ceeded with, with tho President until
Impeachment was decided. After
further debato tho resolution was reject
ed yeas Si, nays "!), and tho Senate
adjourned.
Tho members of the House, Immedi
ately after assembling, proceeded to the
Senate Chamber, In pursuance of an in
vitation to attend the impeachment
trial. On returning, Mr. Dldrldgo pre

lution directing the appointment of a
