POST MASTER. — The election which came off in :his p'ece on Saturday last tor Post Mater. resumed in the following vote: A. L Rusell. 171 Cant. John Arnold. 34 and John M'ntiich 11. Mr. Rus-el] has been the e'erk of the Post Office for some time and di-charged the duties ofbis post fo the satig fa 'ion of all parties, and well deserves the b>h compliment paid him in the very fist •-ring vote he ec< ived on Saturday. He will make an obliging and efficient officer. DON'T forget the Railroad meeting at the f" ourt H'-use on Saturday afternoon. Now is the rime to make your fortones by securing a railroad. Come up to the work like men. Let each man do as much as be thinks his oe ghbor ought and the work will soon be d-me. Let no one allow it to be said that be tailed to assist in the good work. He who •'ar.dsback now. ought to be ashamed tolook h.s neighbor in the face. A little more wak gup and the thing will be done. Saturday ■ uid swell our subscriptions in the town to t-'.OOtt. Shall it be done ? We want $30.- 000. THE KAII.KO.4D MEETING on Monday even !.ng M quite a success, considering tbe in clemency of the weather. Though many were absent who ought to have been there, there was quite a libera] subscription. Our people are waiting up to the importance of the enterprise. Some have given quite liberal !y. but a seeming reluctance on the part of others is injuring the cause. Now we want every body to understand that, though we can build the roai if we go about the work with a determination to do it, it will take all tbe mosiey we can raise and require every in dividual to do his share. There is not a day laborer who will not be largely benefited by a railroad and who will not be well repaid for his investment of one share cf fitly dollars in the railroad, and every man who owns an acre of ground in the community or a house and tot, ought to take from one to a bait a dozen shares. This is the way local railroads are built and it IB the only way in wbtch we can buiid ours. The man who hang oack and witbotd their aid are enemies to the community, and tbe sooner they leave the better for us and them. But we don't want to find any such. We want to see every man do his share like a good citizen and show that he is willing to do according to his ability. Let onr business men look to their interests and subscribe liberally. Let every one act as it tbe responsibility of building tbe road relied on his own shoulders and we will soon have the necessary amount of stock subscribed and be ready to put a corps of engineers on the route. Let us have a long pull, a strong (till and all puii together and ourrailroad will e JOB be an accomplished fact. ANOTHER DESTRUCTIVE EiRE IX Al.TaU.Vl.— Our neighboring city of Altoona was visited with aiioiher deetruciive conflagration on Friday morning of last week. The fire was first discovered about two o'clock in the mor ning. and originated in tbe rear part of the .uilding occupied as the Aitoona Vindicator office. The alarm was promptly given, and the engines were as promptly at the scene of conflagration, but the building being of frame, 'he flames spread with suoh rapidity that it was entirely consumed, together with all its contents —the | re*sea, iyp s and a 1 fading a orey to the devouring element. The loss to Mr. Campbell, tbe editor of the Vindicator, who had just succeeded in e-tab'i-hit g hitn -elf in business, is a very severe one, and he not only merits, out we trust wi'l promt tly receive the subslai.'.ial a d and sympathy ol ! he party throughout the county. The frame hou-e of R. A. O. Kerr, and >be fram- store ar.d dwelling of J. B. Berk owitz, tC.j iaing tbe Vindicator office were also destroyed.
