THK AUMCCLTOBAJ. FAIR.— It afford* ua
the higbeat pleasure to be able to announce
that our Agricultural Fair, held on Wedues
, day, Thursday and Friday of last week, was
not only a complete success, -but one at the
b.-st ever held in the County. This is the
more gratifying, from the tact that the notice
given was so short that there was really no
time for preparation and therefore, while the
lair was actually the best we bare ever hod,
it was an impromptu effort. If timely no
tice had been given we bare no doubt, but
that the show would have been far Superior.
' nder the circumstances it was simply an ex
hibit of the average production of the county
without special effort. Viewing it in this
light we have good reason to congratulate
our agricultural community on the marked
progress they have made since the last fuir
held iu this pluee. The show of stock was
good. The display of fruit flowers and veg
etables of every kind was particularly fine.
Many of the vegetables could not be surpass
ed anywhere. There was a'so a very credit
ablt! show of hcu-e plants and flowers. The
fruit was as flue as we have ever seen, and
shr >-vs an increased interest aud very credita
ble progreus in the department of Horticul
ture. Marked attention was attracted by
lii'ry-six'ditferent kinds of apples, nearly all
choice varieties and twenty-five different
kinds of cboict- pears exhibited by T. M.
Lynch; also to a fine show of grapes and
pears exhibited by Mai. D. Washabaugh
i he liucst lot of Duchess D'Augotileme pears
we have ever seen, was exhibited by Mr.
Simon Xaus, all grown upon a dwarf tree in
his lot: they ware the centre of attraction in
the fruit Department. Premiums were award
ed to Robert Montgomery for the finest
basket of Seekel pears, S. S. Diehl for
the finest apples aud William England
for the best basket of peaches. We have not
yet seen the list of premiums awarded and
recite these from memory of reports read
on the grounds. The list of premiums will
be published in full next week, (jeneral sat.
isfaction is expressed everywhere, both with
the display and the manner in which the fair
was conducted. An immense crowd was in at
tendance each day and not a single accident or
unpleasant occurrence of any kind mar;
red the pleasure of those in attendance. AH
seemed to enjoy the occasion and embrace
the opportunity for an exchange of kindly
greetings with old friends and acquaintances.
We understand that it has already been deter
mined to hold another fair next year and that
timely notice will be given for the fullest pre
paration. These yearly gatherings always re
sult in substantial benefit iu exciting eraula"
tion and thereby leading to improve
ment and progress, among a worthy
class of our community whose calling neces
sarily prevents frequent communication with
their more distant neighbors. Sociability
itnd health itrt> also promoted by the few days
of recreation and the mingling and becoming
acquainted with the citizens of all parts of
the county. We hope to see the efFort to es
tablish regular annual fairs meet with
the most abundant success.
A SwixntE.—We again caution our readers
against encouraging any of the thousand and
one fraudulent gift enterprises that are ped
dled about the country. The latest dodge of
the kiniHs called the Washington Library
Association.'" which professes to found with
the proceeds cfF the enterprise, an Orphan
Asylum to be called the "Riverside Institute,''
somewhere in the sands of New Jersey: at
the same time promising to Greenhorn a mag
nificent gift of a farm, house and lot, or piano,
for oxß ooi.LAK. Win. 11. Mann, Esq., of
Philadelphia, is Presideuf of this concern. It
is surprising that a man of hi* position should
lend his name to it. It must pay.
"HI'SBAXDS, LOVK TOCR WIVES," and give
them Plantation bitters Bitters when they are
suffering from Nervousness, General Debility
Faintness, Spasms, or any of the thousand
and one diseases to which the weaker sex is
liable. Having youraelccx experienced the
benefit of their use, extend the BI.KKSISU to
others. This invaluable tonig, will chase
Hypochondria or "the Blues" —give tone to
the damaged nervous system —gently stimu
late languid secretions—dispel vapors and
ennui, and generally build up the worn con
stitution. For each sex and all ages it is a
gentle stimulant and refreshing cordial. ,
Millions of bottles are sold daily all over the j
world.
THE following is the reason why shooting
stars didn't appear when expected: "When
the mologiaisiio temperature of the horizon is
such as to cloricise the imperient identation
of the hemisphere analogy, the cohesion of
the borax enrbistus becomes surcharged with
infinitesimals, which are thereby virtually de
prived of their fissurial disquisitions. This
effected, a rapid change is produced in the
thoramouper of the gymhasticustus polerium,
which causes a couvacuiar in the hexagonal
autibathes of the terrustrium aqua of eere
mouclar light, which can only be seen when
it is visible."

The Trnth about Dyspepsia.
Whoever says that dyspepsia is incurable, tells
a—that is to say, makes an egregious mistake.
More than ten thousand aggravated cases have
been cured by HOSTETTER'S STOMACH BIT.
TERS, while the number that have been prevent
ed from coming to a head, by the same means, is
incalculable. In this season of the year, when
the appetite is sometimes too vigorous for the
comfort and safely of the stomach, indigestion is
most prevalent and most distressing. Is the appe
tite to he balked to accommodate the digestive or
gans ? Not so: for then the frame would lack its
due proportion of nutriment. The thing to be
done is to STARAOTUEN THE STOMACH, tone the
liver, and put the bowels in perfect order. Noth
ing will do this so effectually, so rapidly, so qui
etly, so pleasantly, as HOSTETTER'S BIT
TER'S. This potent preparation trims and bal
ances the system, and clothes it as it were, with
defensive armor, Chronic dyspepsia, liver com
plaint, and fever and ague are never known to at
tack those who are wise enough to invoke tho aid
of this great preventive. oct4
Dr SrhcHck'a PolmoSc tyr„i>.
This great medicine cured by Dr. J. U. Schcnck
the proprietor, of Pulmonary Consumption, when
speedy death appeared to be inevitable. His phy
sicians pronounced his case incurable, when he
commenced the use of this simple but powerful
remedy. His health was restored in a very short
time, and no return of the disease has been appre
hended, for all the symptoms quickly disappear
ed. and his present weight is more than two hun
dred pound*.
Since his recovery he has devoted his attention
exclusively to the care of Consumption, and the
diseases which are usually complicated with it, and
the cures effected by his medicines have been very
numerous and truly wonderful. Dr. Schcnck
makes professional visits to several of the larger
cities weekly, where be has large concourse of pa
tients, and it is truly astonishing to see poor con
sumptives that have to be lifted out of their car
riages, and in a few months healthy, robust per
sons. Dr. Schcnek's Pulmonic Syrup, Sea Weed
Tonic an.l Mandrake Pills are generally all re
quired in curing Consumption. Pull directions
accompany each, so that any one can take them
without -ecing Dr. Scheack, but when it is cenvo
nient it is best to see him. He gives advice free,
but fur a thorough examination with his Kespir
