Lecture on Rome.
The Rev. Thomas Heyden delivered a lecture on
Rome, in the Court House Tuesday evening iast.-
The storm of snow and rain throughout the day and

Couventioa ot School Dircctos.
On the 2d day of April, instant,—in pursuance of
the published notice of the State Superintendent, a
number of the Directors of Bedford County, met in
Convention to consider the propriety ot increasing
the County Superintendant a salary, at the Couit
House, in Bedford. Thirty-eight Directors answered
to their names.
On motion, the Convention was organized bv ay
pointing Hon. John G. Hartley, President, and John
P. Reed, Secretary. The object of the meeting be
ing then stated, the Convention proceeded to busi
ness. John B. Fluke, Ksq., moved the following re
solution—Resolved, that the salary of the County
Superintendent be increased to the sum of SBOO. Mv.
A. J. Kerr moved to amend by striking out SWX) and
inserting $5Ol. Mr. Devore moved to amcml the
amendment by striking out $5Ol and inserting SI,OOO.
After some discussion a.vote was taken which re
sulted in 81 votes in the affirmative and three in the
negative. The resolution as amended was then by
the same vote, adopted. Thus the salary was raist d
to SI,OOO.
On motion the officers of the Convention were di
rected to certify the action of the ( onventiou to the
State Superintendent..

SNOW. —Snow fell to the depth of 18 inches in
Somerset borough last week, Tuesday and
WedncMlap. In this borough the snow was about
seven inches deep. In Huntingdon it. degenerated
to a slosh. The snow in the Allegheny*, twenty
miles west from this place, was two feet deep m
the early part of this week,
