President Buchanan reached his home on
sVecnesday of last week. He was escorted
thtougb the city by a procession of ci'iz us
and soldiery. The Mayor of that place deli
vered an address of welcome, to which Mr.
Buchanan replied at some length, stating that

at rest with your fathers." What a pity for

The Joint resolution appropriating SIO,OOO f° r
the relief of tire destitute settlers in Kansas, Las
passed both branches of the Pennsylvania Legis
lature. This tun :ly action for the succor of the
unfortunate and famine-stricken inhabitants of that
distant region, very many of whom are natives of
this State, wi 1 receive general commendation.
The tax will not tie felt by our prosperous and
wealthy Commonwealth, while it will be vita!
service to the hardy pioneers of freedom. The
Senator 4 subscribed S2O each, or §660 from their
own pockefs. Gov. Cm-tin has received a most
pressing appeal for help from the Governor of Kan
sas.
