PROP. WOOD : Thee wilt please accept a line to

twenty yeats ago, caused by a complicated chronic
disease, attended with an eruption on the head.—
A contir.nul course of suffering through life having
reduced me to a state ot dcpeiidance, I have not
been able to obtain stuff for cap*, neither have I
1/ecn able to do them up, in consequence of which
tuy head has suffered extremely from cold. This
ipduced me to pay Jiriggs & Hodees almost the last
cent I had on earth for a two dollar bottle ot thy
Hair Restorative about tho first of August last.—
1 have faithfully followed the directions and the
bald spot is now covered with hair thick and black,
though short, it is slso coming in all over my head.
Feeling coiifhlent that another large bottle would
restore it entirely and permanently, I fei.l anxious
to persevere in its use, and being destitute of
means to purchase any more, 1 would ask tbee if
thee wouldst not be williu? to send me an order on

PROP. O. J. WOOD : Dear Sir :—ln the latter part
of the year 1852, while attending the State ar.d
National Law School of tbo State of New Yo r k,
uiy hair, from a cause unknown to rne, commenced
Dlling off very rapidly, so that >n the short space
of six months, (he whole upper part of my scalp
was almost entirefy bereft of its covering, and much
of the rem lining portion upon the side and back
part of my head snortly alter became gray, so tbit
you will not be surprised when I tell yon that upon
my return to the State of Indiana, rny more casual
acquaintance* were net so much at a loss to dis
, cover the cause ot the change in uiy appearance,
as my more intimate acquaintances were to recog
nize tne at all.
I at once made application to the most skillful
physicianff in the country, but receiving no as
surance from tbeni tbat my hair could again be re
stored, I was forced to become reconciled to my
.ate, until, fortunately, in tho latter part of the
Year 1857, your Restorative was recommended to
me by a druggist, as being the most reliable Hair
Reatorative in use. I tried one bottle, and found
.to my great satisfaction that it was producing the
desired effect. Siuce that time, I have used seven
dollars' worth of your Restorative, and as a resuit,
have a rich coat of very soft black hair, which no
money can buy.
As a mark of ray gratitude for your libor and
skill in the production of so wonderful air article,
I have recommended its use to many of my friends
anu acquaintances, who, I am happy to inform you,
are using it with like effect.
Very respectfully, vours,

ABRAM B. BUNN,
Dec. 28, 1860. Executor-
Scrofula, or King's Evil,
r a constitutional disease, a corruption of the
fci.iod, by which this fluid become# vitiated,
weak, and poor. Being in the tirculation, it
pervades the whole body, and may burst out
in disease on any part of it. No organ is free
from its a; tacks, nor is there one which it may
not destroy. The scrofulous taint is variously
caused by mercurial disease, low living, dis
ordered or unhealthy food, impure air, filth
and filthy habits, the depressing vices, and,
above all", by the venereal infection. AVhat
evr be its origin, it is hereditary in the con
stitution, descending " from parents to children
unto tlss third and fourth generation indeed,
it sera* to be the rod of Ilim who says, ♦* I
will visit the iniquities of the fathers upon
their children."
Its effect# commence by deposition from the
blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in
the lungs, liver, and internal organs, is termed
tubercles; in the glands, swellings; and on
the surface, eruptions or sores. This foul cor
ruption, which genders in the blood, depresses
the energies of life, so that scrofulous constitu
tions not only sutler from scrofulous com
plaints, hut they have far less power to with
stand the attacks of other diseases; conse
quently, vast numbers perish by disorders
which, although not scrofulous in their nature,
are still rendered fatal by this taint in the
system# Most of the consumption which de
cimates the human family has its origin directly
in this scrofulous contamination ; and many
destructive disease# of the liver, kidneys, brain,
and, indeed, of all the organs, arise from or
ore aggravated by the same cause.
One quarter of all our people are scrofulous;
thrir persons are invaded by this lurking in
fection, and their health is undermined by it.
To cleanse it from the system we must renovate
the blood by an alterative medicine; and in
vigorate it by healthy food and exercise.
Such a modicine we supply in
AYER'S
Com pound Extract of Sarsaparilla,
the most effectual remedy which the medical
ekiil of our times can devise for this every
where prevailing and fatal malady. It is com
bined from the most active remedials that have
bee. i discovered for the expurgation of this foul
cli'-order from the blood, and the rescue of the
system from its destructive consequences.
Hence it should be employed for the cure of
not only scrofula, but also those other affec
tions which arise from it, such as EEUPTIYH
end SXI.V DISEASES, ST. ANTHONY'S FIBB,
HOSE, or ERYSIPELAS, PIMPLES, PUSTULES,
BLOTCHES, PLAINS and BOILS, TUMOBS, TLTTEB
A'-.D SALT RUFUM, SCALD HEAD, RINGWORM,
RHEUMATISM, SYPHILITIC and MERCURIAL DIS
EASES, DROPSY, DYSPEPSIA, DEBILITY, and,
indeed, ALL Cojsri.AUITS ARISING PROM VITIA
TED OR IMPURE BLOOD. The popular belief
iu " impurity of the blood " is founded in truth,
for scrofula is a degeneration of the blood. The
particular purpese and virtue of this Sarsapa
rilla is to purify and regenerate this vital fluid,
without which sound health is impossible in
contaminated constitutions.
Ayer's Cathartic Pills,
FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A FAMILY PHYSIO,
are so composed that disease within the ranee of
their action can rarely withstand or evade them
Their penetrating properties search, and cleanse,
ar.d invigorate every portion of the human organ
ism, correcting its diseased action, and restoring
its healthy vitalities. As a consequence of thess
properties, the invalid who is bowed down with
pain or physical debility is astonished to find his
health or energy restored by a remedy at once so
simple and inviting.
I Not only do they cure the every-day complaints
| of eTery body, but AKO many formidable and
dangerous diseases. The agent below named is
| pleased to furnish gratis my American Almanac,
containing certificates of their cures and directions
for their use in the following complaints : Costive
nets, Heartburn, Headache arising from disordered
Stomach, Nauscc, Indigestion, Pain in and Morbid
Inaction of the Boteeli, Flatulency, Loss of Appe
tite, Jaundice, and other kindred complaints,
arising from a JPW state of the body or obstructieq
of its functions.

FOB TUB RAPID CUBE OP
Coughs, Colds, Influenza, Hoarseness,
Croup, Bronchitis, Incipient Consump
tion, and for the relief of Consumptive
Patients in advauced stages of the
disease.
So wide is the field of its usefulness and so nu
merous are the cases of its cures, that almost
every section of country abounds in persona pub
licly known, who have been restored from alarming
and even desperate diseases of the lungs by its
use. When once tried, its superiority over every
other medicine of its kind is too apparent to escape
observation, and where its virtues are known, tha
public no longer hesitate what antidote to employ
for the distressing and dangerous affections of the
pulmonary organs that arc incident to our climate.
While many inferior remedies thrust upon the
community have failed and been discarded, this
has gained friends by every trial, conferred benefits
on the afflicted they can never forget, and pro
duced cures too numerous and too remarkable to
BO forgotten.
