IMPROVED CAST-IRON
CARRIAGE SU B.
tTAHE undersigned believes that he has invented a
1. cast iron carriage huh which far excels -all
others now in use, for strength, neatness and dura
bility, and that it only needs to ho examined, and
its merits tested, to secure its universal approval
an-1 adoption. Indeed it is no longer au experi
ment, it having been effectually tried by the best
judges in or country, and pronounced one of the
Ureal est improvemenls of the tgc!
Several vehicles have been In use over two years
with the Improved Huj attached, and the wheels
> re still as perfect as when they left the shop, the
unavoidable weir excepted.
! i bis is th only Cxi: Iron Hub ev. r invented
Billable for light wheels-
This improveia *nt is of such .1 nature that ono or
more spokes may lie taken out changed or replaced
without disturbing the other portion of the wbc 1
Where a wood huh is used, if a spoke happens to
become broken, it is necessary to cut tlie tire and
separate the felloes, to Z' t at the damaged part.—
The wheel must be then recomposed, the tire re
welded ami r> set. All this involves a considerable
expense and loss of time.
in the present Improvement the inrer en is of
the spok< s are secured in an Iron Huh, which con
sists mainly of two shells fastened together with
screws. By simp'y unscrewing the nuts arid taking
oif the back shell, any one of the spokes may lie
removed or changed, and 'lie hrb again put togeth
er,"! saving the wheel as soli 1 and firm a* ever, all
