which not only beats Mr. Monroe's, but
will not be beaten by any other, in our
judgment. Mr. Strait says : "Lest year
I kept seven old cows and-one 2 year old
heifer. From the milk of those cows we
made butter which sold for $482,92; and
Aram .the buttermilk we realized in calves
an d pork $145.00—s total of $627 92,
and $6B 49 to each cow."

to Milroy has been declared impractica
ble. Why will not a road leading from
this plaee, via Boalsburgoo Lewisburg,
answer just as well We believe it. to
he far superior to the Milroy route, and
by going up Spring Creek to Boalsburg
we go around the inountain instead of
over it, and thus all Penns valley is ac
commodated.
We sinoerely hope that the Snowshoe
R. R. Co , and the people of Penns and
Buffalo rallies will act in harmony in
this matter, and take immediate steps to
secure a survey of the route, and the
speedy completion of the road.

- Tben comet the "tug of war" If the
emigrant, or carpet bagger, as he is called,
has an opinion of his own, and attempts
to express it, he iktiocin informed that he
is not wanted in that community. We
need not, in this connection, repete the
outrages and murders of just such men,
committed by the Ku-Klux Klan, goad- .
ed on and encouraged by such oily-tong
ued hypocrits,as own the large tracts of
land in those States. We know what we
affirm, for we have investigated scores of
these cases. West Virginia may be,
and we believe is, an exception to the
general rule, but we would advise. our
people to keep out of the Southern States,
at least for farming purpOsee, for some
time to cows.
There are thousands of opportunities
iu this State, and in the great West, for
people to invest their surplus funds, and
at the same time be perfectly safe in re
gard to life and limb. If Col. Forney
would pay Bellefonte a visit, and make
himself acquainted with our people, and
the natural advantages of the place, we
think be vrould be induced to turn his
mind in this direction, instead of the
Southern States.
Our water power is not surpassed, nor
equalled, by any in the United States
Our facilities for all kinds of manufacto
ries are far superior to those of any of
the New Englst.d towns. orStettes Here,
in Bellefonte. are superior amines for
large fortunes. Col. Forney may travel
through every Southern Slate, and, we
venture the assertion, he will never find
any thing in compfrison. Situate. as we
are, in the geographical centre of the
Key,tone State, with our mountains full
of the best of bituminous coal, and our
valleys and ridges full of iron ore, on the
great line of Railroads runningEsst and
West, we should be the greatest mann
facturingf own in the world.
There should be erected hardware and
cutlery establiehments.at least two.which
wou:d give empl• yment to from one to
two thousand men; we should Wave wool
len factories, paper mills, wire mills,
cotton mills, wholesale bat and thee
manufactories, two or three more glass
works, and manufactories of reapers,
mowers and other farming implements.
Bellefonte is just the pbice for all these,
and to this place we invite Col. Forney
to direct his attention.

co-operate with Col. Forney. and all oth
