denly, in Lewisburg, on the night oPlhe
31st inst., of appoplexy of the lungs.
William F. Lloyd, cashier of a bank at
Wrightsv^le ; has gone to parts unknown,

—Black bass a fool in length and ‘‘cat

caught in the Schuylkill at Birdsboro.
—Messrs. & Son, of Johns
town, carried off the first prize fur manu
facture of leather, at the Vienna exhibi-

—Governor Hartranft has approved the
bill extending the charter of the Somer

—The coal miner Ku-Klux, familiarly
known as the Molly Manures, are again
sending out threatening letters to obnox
ious persons in Schuylkill county.
—Mr. Jesse Macs bee, of Sunbury, had
a piece of glass extracted from his hand,
the other day, which bad been there tor
twelve years.
—A man jumped from the third story
of the Mansion House, at Ashland, in his
sleep, fell thirty feet to the ground, but
Vfts unhurt.
—Pbaon , Diehl, of Allentown, had a
thumb bitten off by a horse, the other
day. Well alight he exclaim, "the de’il’s
in that horse!"
—The new directory just issued for
Wilkesbarre puts the population of that
city at 18.876, an increase census
ol 1870 of 9,803.
—Samuel Shirk, Sr., fell from his barn
in Rothsville, Lancaster county, on the
19tb lost., sustaining injuries from which
he died on the 2lst. His wife was feflled
by the cars about a year ago. ;
—Samuel Klapp, who run a scjthe
.through the body of George Moyer, in
Lancaster county, in June last, baa. been
tried for the crime, and acquitted /m the
ground of insanity—not of tbe emotional
order, however.
—The heaviest man in Harrisburg is
Mr. Benjamin Singerly, the obese and
good-natured State Printer; and next to
him comes the keeper of a lager-beer s> -
loon, who polls down the scales to 315
pounds.
—A pair of twin brothers named |'l
luro, «>f Waynesburg, cut one hundred
logs with a crosscut saw, In one day, re
cently. the logs averaging two feel in
thickness. Henry Araoa felled the trees
and trimmed for the sawers.
—The new Masonic Temple in Phila
delphia is almost finished. The dedicato
ry ceremonies will beg’a <m the 25th of
September .and continue three days. It
is estimated that over 100,000 members of
the mystic tie will be present and assist
in the ceremonies. ,
—A State Grange of the of
Husbandry will be organized in the city
of Reading in the course of a few weeks.
A grange will also be instituted at Doug
lassvi le, which wll then make eight for
Berks county.
—The Bedford Gazette's "“oldest inhab
itant,” a negro wftnaan named Deliah
Fortune, who died recently in that town,
was represented to have been 110 year*
old. It baa since been proved by docn
mentary evidence that her age was only
83 years.
—Seven stables were burnel in San
bury at an early hour on Suur«lny njorn
ing. For a time fears were entertained
that the bun w->u’.d be destruyei, but by

—Lizzie Gilgote, residing in LmcasUr
