JPlenic*— There was a picnic of the M.
B. Chorcb of Georgetown on Thursday
of last-week, on the grounds prepared for
the Camp Meeting ih the valley of Mill
Greek, between Hookstown and George
town. The children had a fine time and
lots of fun, and the only thing to mar the
day was a shower in the afternoon that
cut short the sport.
A large black dog belonging, we un
derstand, to Dr. Bander*, was canght on
the cow-catcher of the Accommodation
train on Tuesday evening as it was com
ing in to Beaver. Understanding his
danger, seemingly, he succeeded in cling
ing to his position until turning round,
and gathering up be made a jump that
landed him beyond the engine. «
On Saturday the State commenced Jibe
payment of the interest on the State debt
at the Farmers and Mechanics* Bank,
Philadelphia, the financial agency of
the Commonwealth. The payment in
cludes the interest on the registered and
coupon 5 per cents, and all the several
series of 6 per cent, bonds of 1867.

The Washington Reporter sate of the
Republican Assembly nominations for
Beaver, Washington and Butler; “While
we should have been glad to see two can
didates conceded to Washington county,
we cheerfully acquiesce in the action of
the Conference; and feel safe in promis
ing, on behalf of the Republicans of the
county, a hearty support to all the gen
tlemen named.”
The Pennsylvania State Teacher’s As
sociation wid hold its 20tb annual session
in the Opera House in Pittsburgh, on
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 15 tb,
13th and Uth of August4B73. The pob
lished programme of the exercises includes
a good variety, and promises a rich treat
to the friends of education.
The Builer Citizen says: The bouse ol
Mr. Henry Dickey, in the northwest part
of town, was struck by lightning daring
the frequent storms of Monday Ust, the
fluid entering near a chimney, posing
down and through the bouse, doing some
injury thereto but to none of the persons
within.
