—On Tuesday of -last 1 week the books for sub
scriptions at [London, to the Japanese $10,000,000
loan, after being open only three days, were
closed and it was found that $50,000,000 had been
subscribed, and the bonds were almost immedi
ately after quoted at three and a half premium.
—The Erie officials say the laying of the third
ralj will commence in the spring, and it is proba
ble that'a sum greater than the ten millions
already raised would be necessary for the under
taking.
—At a meeting of the colored citizens of New
Yoik, action was taken toward securing the pass
age'of a bill introduced in the Legislature giving
to colored men the privileges and rights .in that
State which were secured by Sumner’s civil fights
bill. Several inode remarks in favor of Cuban in
dependence.
—After a discussion lasting four days, the Ar
kansas House of Representatives, on. Friday, fail
ed to pass the Civil Righ ts bill, which passed the
Senate recently. Five Republicans voted with
the Democrats against it. The vote stood 37 to3B.
—Coin in the L T . S. Treasury, $03,750,000
—Tho Potomac and Susquehanna rivers arc
rising again.
—The wooden-ware factory of William Brown, at
st.Roais. was burned yesterday morning. The
loss is $00,000;
—A resolution was introduced In the New York
Senate Friday calling on the officials of the Erie
railway to furnish, under oath, the different
amounts paid for legislative action in 1872 for the
passage of the Erie Classification act.
—A'passenger train on the Indianapolis, Cmcin
uatLand Lafayette railroad going east Friday night
run or the track near Gloves, Ohio. A Pullman
car was overturned and a number of passengers
bruised, but none of them dangerously injured.
—The Erie knitting mill, at Cohoes, was burned
Friday morning. The loss Is estimated at $70,000.

—Mr C. A. Rarasbecker testified on Thursday
before the Pomeroy investigating committee at

roy.aulhorizcd him to use money to inftnence the
votes of Representatives Davis and Cummings,
but that he (Pomeroy) furnished him with no
money to pay them. - He also swore he was author
ized by Judge Horten to' offer Representative
Bacon $2OOO rio; vote for Pomeroy, and that he
made the offer ami Mr. Bacon refused it.
—The St. lira is Republican of yesterday morning,
re faring to (he minority report on the subject of
the Senatorial bribery case submitted to the House

written letters favoring Col. Snead's proposition
to compromise with the State of Georgia on the

■w ill issue hew bonds to the amount of $1,666,501,

—The nailers’ strike at Wheeling West Va., last
