• Select ;Miscellany A NI au Hurd—How a Faithful Wife Rescued Her F a u s b an d. , The Governor of Mi`isouri has re cently partioned an inmate of the penitentiary, under circumstances Which furnish a remarkable and touching instance of what a devoted, trusting and energetic wife can do for her unfortunate husband. The lat ter usedtolive in Toledo, o.,and - the facts of his case are vouchd for by respectable journals of that place. Some time ago he removed to M iss ouri with his wife, and early in 1870 the events occurred that proved so disastrous to him. It appears that he was not very prosperous, and had occasion to seel—as nearly the last of his possessions—a pair of fine horses. For this he received $5OO in clean, new nat!onal currency, Tha stock dealer who bought the horses after wards disappeared. On the next day after the Kde, the vender paid out tWo bills, of L - :.loeach. It was discov (led that they were counterfeit, and the man waspromptly arrested and lodged in prison, lie, of course, di reetiv protested his innocence, and told how he got the money; and the riimainings B 4 o was found on his per s,m. The horse dealer was traced and brought forward, when, to the horror and amazement of the accus ed man,. he stoutly denied all knowl olge of the bad bills, and swore that. the money he had paid for the hors es-was In hills on an Illinois bank. o cqnfirmatory evidence of the pris oder's tale could be got, and, as much counterfeit monay had lately been, circulated in that place, public feel ing-ran strong against him. lie was tried,, and despite his earnest protes tations, and his wife's determined ef? fortsin his behalf, he was found guil ty, and sentenced to five years inf. prlsonmebt in the penitentiary. But the wife never for a moment believed him guilty; nod with as tonishing resolution and tertinacity, she now bent her energies to the task of proving his innocence and effect ing his release. To the latter end she first sought an interview with the tiovernOr of 3lissouri. To him 'she stated-her ease, as she saw and _believed it. But the Governor, al though kind, was firm. The pris oner had been shown to In. guilty. Counterfeiting was greatly on the in crease. It was neeessary to make exatnples, and there waS every just reason wow her husband should be one of them. Ile could hold out no hoi e, ‘ l 'P'ro the condeinned's resto ration to his family after five years. The a ife went home, converted she had into cash, and henceforward devoted her whole time and brain to , ]] , ,thing the. horse-dealer who hart :: ie e e h e r hiF.baral the spurious notes, with tire hope of con the really guilty per-on of that of fense. When the horse-dealer fell id the Nx ifc (.fl his vietim was at the same hotel. She found out the physician attending him and frankly told her whale story. She described how s'io hail tracked the cause of het husband', toisf.irt ones, and beg , isi tine doctor for the sake of justice and right to help her. The physician was moved by her story, and agreed to do what she asked, which was to give his patient sora depressing hut sab medicine, and adroitly tti lead him to think that he ‘m a.: in a very critical condition. Ile also said that on the cusiori of making the trade in ques tion he happened to have tin money, and greatly wanted the hor.es. Vinegar Bitters are not a stile Fancy Drink made of - Poor Rum, Whiskey, Proof Spints and Refuse Liquors, doctored, spiced, and sweetened to pk.ue the taste, called "'lonics," " Appelizeri." "Restorers," &c., that lead the tippler on to drunk enness and ruin, but are a true Medicine, made from the native roots and herbs of California, fres from all Alcoholic Stimulants. They are the Great Blood Pacifier and a Life-giving Principle, a Per fect Renovator and Invigorator of the System, car rying off all poisonous matter and restoring the blood to a healthy condition, enriching it, refreshing and invigorating both mind and body. They arc easy of administration, prompt in their action, cer tain in their results, safe and reliable in all forms of disease. No Person can take these Bitters ac cording to directions, and remain long unwell, pro vided their bones arc not destroyed by mineral poi son or other means, and the vital organs wasted beyond the point of repair. Dyspepsia or Indigestion. Headache, Pain in the Shoulders, Coughs, Tightness of the Chest. Dizziness, Sour Eructations of the Stomach, Bad Taste in the Mouth, Bilious Attacks, Palpi tation of the Heart, 'lnflammation of the Lungs, Pain in the regions of the Kidneys, and a hundred other painful symptoms, are the offsprings of Dys pepsia. In these complaints it has no equal, and one bottle will prove abetter guarantee of its merits than a lengthy advertisement. For Female Complaints, in young or old, married or single, at Pie dawn of womanhood, or the turn of life, these Tonic titters display so de cided an influence that a marked improvement is soon perceptible. For Inflammatory and Chronic lithe nmat is m and: Gout, Dyspepsia or Indiges tion, Bilious, Remittent and Intermittent Fevers, Diseases of the Blood,tLiver, Kidneys and Bladder, these Batters have been most successful. Such Diseases are caused by Vitiated Blood, which is generally produced by derangement of the Digestive Organs. well as arc it Gentle Purgative as well as a Tonic, possessing also the peculiar merit of acting as a powerful agent in relieving Congestion or Indammatuin of the Liver and Visetral Organ; and in Bilious Diseases. For Skin Diseases. One bottle in such cases will convince the most incredulous of their curative effects. Cleanse the Vitiated Blood whenever you find its impurities bursting through the skin in Pimples, Eruptions, or Sores ; cleanse it when you find it obstructed and sluggish in the veins ; cleanse it when it is foul ; your feelings wall tell you when. Keep the blood pure, and the health of the system will follow. Gratectu thousands procla.m VINtr.GA R LITTERS the most wonderful Inrigurant that nef sustained the sinking system.
