ed possession of a small Instrument that
answered the purpose of a saw, and with
this, some time during Friday night,
they severed one'of the bars of the grat-
lug between the Agenda wards and the I
hall, thus making an opening sufficient
ly large to admit of their egress. From
the hall they missed without difficulty to
the upperportion of the building, and
opening the trap door placed themselves
neat to ttei root. An opening was thin

removing a number or 'the bricks, and
through this the two menpassed to the
ground below, letting themselves down
with a rope made of• blanket.. Mewls°

was returned to jail, having been com
pelled to stop at the residence of Samuel
Laird, in Canton township, three What
northwest of town, in consequenoe of his
feet having become baldly frozen. Be
fore lotting himself doWn to the groUnd

and becoming alarmed by the barkletrof
the dog had run' away without them. It
was irierned that Oliver proceeded to a
house a,ahort.distance west of keps,

obtained some clothing he had leftthere
This was between- half-past three and
,four o'clock, and since then no definite
trace of him has boon discovered.
The escape was evidently well planned
and it was certainly well executed, and
we do not think the presumption is very
violent that the Insanity of Oliver 'was
entirely simulated.
—We are sorry to state that William
