The Department of Transportation; created
during-the war, has accomplished its purpose,
and ceased to exist by the determination of
-the Legislature, expressed in the appropria
tion bill, approved April-11, 1807. The re
port of the'. Superintendent shows,that for
the year ending November 30,1807, the whole
number of clatma settled and paid was eight
hundrixl and eighty-two. -These were for the
disinterment of the bodies of deceased Penn
sylvania soldiers - on distant battle-061de and
transportation to thahomes of their relatives,
and the total expenditures were 'thirty-two
thousand five hundred and thirtylrine dol
lars and forty cents. There remain unsettled
one hundred and twenty-threeklainisramcrn
ing-to about four.'thousand dollarajor the
payment of which and some unsettled ' trans
' portation, an apOropriatiomof four thousand
live hundred dollars will be retjuired. I
