To miss a potato spray applications at this time is serious business, say specialists at The Pennsylvania State College. Growers should make sure that applications of Bordeaux mixture ‘are made every ten days during the growing season. Even one miss may be the cause of serious losses. Almost 40,000 acres of potatoes are being sprayed in the Keystone State this season, say extension specialists. Part of this is being covered by 42 spray rings, where several growers go together and provide a machine and an operator to keep spraying their po- tato vines throughout the summer. Seven of these operators are students from the agricultural scheol at State College. In the spray rings an effort is made to get an application of spray on each field once every ten days. The | 42 rings are in operation in 18 coun- ties, including one in Philadelphia county where a student operator cares for seventy acres. ee rns 103 Fail at Penn State. A total of 103 students failed to pass the required amount of work dur- ing the second semester of The Penn- sylvania State College, according to statistics just made public by the col- lege registrar. The engineering school had the most failures with 34, but this school also has the largest enroll- ment. The Liberal Arts school was second in failures with 382, and the school of agriculture third with 14.
