_ HUBLERSBURG fo] Mrs. J. D. Miller spent Monday in] Bellefonte and Milesburg. Rev. C. H. Faust attended the con- vention that was held in Harrisburg last week. Jil oT Mrs. Deitrich was called to Axe Mann again, to help care for her brother, Mr. White. Edwin McAuley, Max Markle and William Faust spent over Sunday with their parents in this place. On Friday evening the Juniors of the Hublersburg High school tender their reception to the Seniors at. the home of Cyrus Hoy, at Zion. Who says that Mr. Groundhog has not been demonstrating as monarch of all he surveys? Let us hope old King Sol will soon shatter his influ- ence. The entertainment held on Friday evening at Centre school, by Miss Helen Hoy and her pupils was well at- tended and every one performed his and her part well. In last week’s paper we noticed that the editor made special mention of the aged people in Bellefonte, “Three Oc- togenarians.” Well, our little burg is not in the rear in that line by any means. We have in our midst one old lady, Mrs. Solt, who makes her home with her daughter, Mrs. Gentzel, and who has passed her 90th milestone, and two other ladies who have passed their 80th; also two who are almost 79 years old. Personal Efficiency Score. A High school Hampshire, Miss teacher in New Florence R. Kelly, has worked out a “High School Stu- dents’ Efficiency Score.” The tests and questions are worth while, and constitute a self-examination which will prove stimulating. The were published in the Journal of Education. We pass them on to our young people: According to your age and height, is your weight up to the standard ? Do you take part in out-door sports or otherwise usually spend two hours a day out of doors? | Do you play some musical instru- ment or draw? Or have you a hobby which will be of lasting benefit. to you? ; Do you use carpenter’s tools or gar- den tools; needle and thread or cook- ing utensils? Have you daily work to do for your father or mother? Do you examine regularly three magazines ? Are you well acquainted with the lives of the four men or women you admire most? Do you read at least one standard book a month? Do you make and keep friends? Is your best confidential friend one of your parents? Do you give careful attention to your personal appearance ? Is your language always clean? Do you keep an expense account ? A bank account? Do you try to be prompt, dependa- ble, accurate, courteous, thoughtful ? Do you make eighty-five per cent. in four regular studies? life work -a for iT Do you take active part in some or- ganization for social betterment? . nd how you will” prepare Wines, Cognac, Champagne, Bland Nectar Without End. Who said the lot of a Bolshevist is not a merry one? List to a tempting tale from their realm: “In the monutains behind Novo Russisk we found what appeared to be a Russian tavern, but was inreali- ty the late Czar’s wine cellar. We de- scended in elevators into a network of tunnels beneath the vineyards that garnish the hills of that section, and there found a veritable labyrinth of wine. Casks and bottles lined the walls as far as the eye could reach, and newly made nector rushed from the presses into containers. Red wine, cognac and champagne were being made faster than the Bolshe- vists, who had taken the place over, could drink it.” J Thus L. S. Larson, engineer of the Charles T. McGee Co’s steamship Kickapoo, which just has returned from a voyage to Russia, and he has only salty and deep-sea words for our own arid land after such an exper- jence. The engineer, in company with the captain of the vessel and several United States officers, risked their lives in penetrating the Bolshevist Sounity to make the delectable visita- on. “How would you like to walk through seven miles of variegated wines, where champagne bottles glis- ten in the dim light and the odor of musty nectars pervade your mnos- trils?’ he asked by way of further baiting his hearers. Verily, the phil- osophy of Omar did not die with the passage of the prohibition amend- ment. Ho! for the life of a Bolshevist—a bomb, a bottle and a bun! Her Last Place. Mrs. Hiram Daily—In your last place six months! Good! How much did you get in that place? Gladys, the Cook—Just my room and board, ma’am. I was in jail for Pasting up my husband.—Houston ost.
