Letter to H. Sechler, Bellefonte, Pa.
Dear Sit : The way to reckon the cost of
paint is to put both costs together : the
cost of the paint and the cost of putting it
on.
It would save this country hundreds of
millions of dollars a year ; it would save
you alone (if you happen to be a vietim)
several dollars a year.
See how it works. It costs as much to
put-on one paint as another, don’t it?
Yes, if you use the same number of gal.
ons.
Well, don’t 1?
No, you'll use twice as many gallons of
adulterated paint as of Devoe ; and you've
got to pay twice as moch for putting it on.
Mr. N. Avery, Delhi, N. Y., bas two
houses alike and in the same condition.
Painted one house with Devoe : 6 gallons.
Painted the other house with a paint that
was ball aduolteration : 12 gallops. Same
painter, Geo. Gilbert, did both jobs. One
cost $27 ; the other $54.
Better go by the name.
Yours truly,
F. W. Devoe & Co.

There will be a sketch of that friend of all
young hearts, Robert Louis Stevenson, in the
April St. Nicholas, by Ariadne Gilbert, under ti-
tle of “The Lighthouse-Builder's Son.” While
the boyhood of Robert Louis will be dwelt upon
with much interesting detail, the story of his
later life and his work will also be covered ; and
there will be extracts from Stevenson's letters and
a number of interesting illustrations, one a re-
production of the bronze memorial of Stevenson
by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, now in St. Gile's Ca-
