When the young woman first entered the studio for actual work he was standing at the door, and as the stepped over the threshold he remarked: ‘‘There is no sex in this studio. The moment you fall in love with me or try any feminine tricks with me, out you go.” i ‘‘She was taught to pound her own clay, and even to wash the floors, to take away any conceit she might bave had as to her own superiority. ‘‘She finally saw what was intended, and though she said nothing, set to work— hard work—to try and drive away feminine timidity and to astack her clay wish bold- ness and vigor that was truly delightful to one who had regarded women as a nuisance in studio life. ; i ‘What a lesson for humanity, for those weak, useless women who deliberately marder their young or consign them to the care of inferior or immoral servants, is both her strong young life and ber statue, which teaches without words the grandest truths of the universe, ‘Mother- hood.’ 7? ; t FOUNDER OF Y.
